Sounds like they are playing at 192 beats per minute which is what is written alonh with it being in 7/4. Also FINALLY I CAN HEAR THE BASS TROMEBONE!

UndeadKennedy Thanks for the comment but you are incorrect. This is the Don Ellis version (minus the optional flutes). It is the same version from the movie though the movie makes several cuts in their version to fit the film

This is the Don Ellis Critical Edition, which is a combination of the version Hank wrote for Don's band and the last version Hank for his Towson State ensemble. (I am the Editor of this edition.) Over the years I found evidence that Hank did probably five versions of this chart. It is hardly 'dumbed down' as all the notes were written by Hank himself. You may not be familiar with all the slight variations, but that doesn't mean it's dumbed down.

@@nickdiscala9638 I think he's suggesting that the band sounds like it's struggling, not that the composition itself is dumbed down. This does have a dirtier sound to it than the sound of others who have played the exact version.
