The Bartender from After Later Audio serves up four stereo channels of Eurorack mixing with flexible expansion options and a convenient interface optimized for live performance. Each of Bartender's four stereo channels offers stereo inputs, pan and level controls and CV inputs, additional gain, send controls, dual-mode mute switches, and level control faders for dialing in a perfect mix. Each channel may be routed to the Bartender's cue bus, allowing you to audition new musical materials from the headphone output before sending them out to your adoring fans mid-performance. Two fully-featured stereo sends and returns make it easy to incorporate stereo effects, while separate stereo and mono outputs give you flexible options for routing audio out of Bartender.
While Bartender is a fully-featured mixer on its own, a suite of highly flexible expansion options let you create the Eurorack mixer of your dreams. Add up to three additional Bartenders to create an eight, 12, or 16-channel mixer, or add two channels at a time with a Barback. Send VCA allows you to add CV control over send level. Cast Iron is a great option for adding a single basic channel without sends and cue functionality. USB-2CH offers a convenient way to record your stereo output from Bartender, or utilize DAW-based effects in insert mode. Whatever your Eurorack mixing needs, Bartender is ready to be the heart of your perfect mixing solution.

A really great alternative is the Nano Modules Performance Mixer. If I'm not mistaken is pretty similar but has the extra of recording knob movement.... Great video by the way :)

Hmm, the Nano does have knob recording, but it's not expandable to more thann4 channels and has no send 1-2 switch or mute button. Also it costs 200 bucks more.

@@g3cd mmmm... you are only right about the cost :) It's expandable, the send "switch" is a knob and the mute buttons are at the bottm. Check their website

I coincidentally just got one of these for most of the same reasons you like it. Other candidates were Befaco Hexmix w/ expanders, WMD, Boredbrain Xcelon, Xaos Ostrawa+Praga all too big and/or expensive and often mono. Cheaper & smaller considerations were Cosmotronic Cosmix Pro and Toppobrillo Minimix, but neither have VC over level or pan, and Bastl Aikido but it's mono.

Kind of checks all the boxes. I don't even think I'll really need the expanders that much. 4 inputs is typically enough for me.

I have the L-1 VC Stereo Mixer, and it's superb, but I am very interested in the Bartender for it's additional features. Do the Bartender series have metal panels?

@@braintree56 cool! Good to know! Definitely something that would be sweet to put hands on before ordering one but yeah, didn’t seem like you were having a tough time with it. Full featured too compared to more trimmed down solutions like the Cosmix. Though if you’re not familiar with the Cosmix Pro, that’s an interesting offering for sure. Not all stereo channels though.

@@QwivSliders are very space efficient. Closer sliders have a benefit for performance as it allows you to reach more channel faders between your fingers on a slide hand. Plus, you can always use dc offset as cv to control the trimmer parameters if you want more space. Imo, any more horizontal channel space than this would make the module start to lose functionality as a performance mixer.

I've been using the befaco system for a number of years, the mono sends are a drawback with so many stereo modules coming out now but you can do mulitple sends for each channel. The one I just purchased though is the mixer by boredbrain. Have you looked into this one? I have the WMD one and need to sell it as it just didn't have a good workflow for me.

The Bored brain seems to be coming up here a lot as a possible alternative to this... I haven't used it but it seems pretty nice and checks all the right boxes. Another commenter pointed out that you can send to both aux sends... That's something that can't be done here.

I have been using the ES-9 in standalone mode with midi controller. Very flexible using AUM and I can keep my input cables way far away from my controls. Also, pretty much unlimbered software sends, compressors, and up to 8 mono/4 stereo sends. And inputs to and DAW.

I love the Expert Sleepers stuff. Went with an FH-2 to integrate my DFAM based percussion synth with Cubase via the DFAM Thing by Serendipity. I wanted all the C/V stuff to happen in the rack but be able to interface via MIDI. Such a great alternative way to work. I love that there are multiple ways to get to a similar place. I’ll probably just put a computer in my rack(upcoming 4ms Meta module that hosts VCV Rack).
@Qwiv
@Qwiv 3 ай бұрын
@@Loki6669Alpha that module will likely be lame like the poly Hector. Tiny screen. ES-9 you can connect the real VCV on a computer or MiRack on a tablet/phone. Way better touch screen. Can you explain how you are using the FH2 with DFAM? Is it just piping the modulation from your computer to the DFAM?

@@Qwiv Like I said, it’s good to have multiple paths. For me it’s very important not to be going back and forth between the eurorack and PC until I get to the songwriting/sequencing phase. My rack is kind of a break from more left brained PC activity. The 4ms module is worth it to me JUST to be able to run a couple 4ms samplers and associated logical functions. I don’t have a problem programming them on the PC and saving the configuration to the module. You can set up presets this way. The module is supposed to have bluetooth as well so hopefully they release a mobile app for it but not too concerned about it. I agree that an ES-9 and PC running VCV rack SHOULD be the superior way to do it but that would interfere with my creative process.

@@Qwiv As for the DFAM; The DFAM itself is mated with a DFAM Thing module(for direct access to the DFAMs steps and the ability to reset it). The DFAM Thing then receives C/V from the FH-2 which is converting MIDI from a controller(it’s a USB/5pin din MIDI host) and or Cubase. I do sound design in the eurorack environment and then sequence and automate C/V(as MIDI CCs) from Cubase. Keeping the 2 processes seperate is important to my workflow. I use an Intellijel Outs module to record audio to the PC.

I’ll definitely be looking into this mixer when an aluminum panel is available. Do you have any experience with the D.O. MIXX by Blood Cells Audio? I used one briefly in a local shop when I was first starting out and it sounded very clean and is compact.

I wonder if they'll release an aluminum panel. I saw that they did for a few of their MIC line modules, but it doesn't appear like they did for their other modules. I haven't checked out the DO Mixx! I'll have a look. Thanks for the suggestion.

Curious how this compares to the Xaoc mixer line. I sold my WMD because of the micro controls and cramped layout. I have the Frapp stuff now, but I'm still not in love with it. Based on your video I think the Bartender probably hits the sweet spot for a very large portion the of Eurorack audience. However, if I had a lab, and could design anything, I think an external mixer designed specifically for Eurorack, with larger robust controls (probably motorized) would be the unicorn mixer.

You know, that's not a bad idea... I really like using my Sound craft mixer. It would be great if the Aux Sends on that weren't line level (or if they had the option for Euro level). I could see that being successful. You need to get a lab!!! :)

Are you still using your outboard mixer or is this mixer going directly into your daw and/or speakers? Eurorack mixers are ridiculously confusing to me. Obviously, for me, this is something further down the road. Also, what is the OX Pipe? Just to note, WMD is a great company, but everything is pricey and I don't understand that. Didn't Steady State Fate purchase WMD? I might be wrong...
@braintree56
@braintree56 3 ай бұрын
With the USB module you can send audio directly to a DAW. You would still need a way to send it to Speakers at line level. The OXI pipe is an extension module for the OXI One. The OXI One is the sequencer off the screen (you can see the edge of it). It sends triggers and gates through HDMI into the pipe and then you can just plug in CV from there.
