Stop giving me books to read, I can't keep up! You are the best of the best on KZfaq, I hope you know that.

Very, very kind of you to say-thank you so much! As much as I don’t want to burden those TBRs, this one is really a standout. All best!

I just finished the book today, and it is *fascinating.* I was so engrossed that I started jotting down all the dates I could (of course, these are in the world's pre/post S. notation), and here's what I've started finding after trying to sort out the real world dates: Quiet Blue Thursday, S.-145, when S. was released, was on a November 23rd. Given other sources that our storyworker has cited (specifically, the Forbes article on page 18), the date of S. being released is likely Thursday, November 23rd. 2102. The Day of Notice, S.+0, would then be April 17th, 2103. There's another date listed, however, that was the most fascinating, that being the Negative Carry date, "the point at which the cost of sustaining humanity on Earth exceeded any possible benefit, occurring approximately at S.-109,500 days;" if my dates are correct, Negative Carry would've occurred on or around *June 29th, 1803,* nearly 300 years prior to S., and over 200 years prior to us.

As it happens, I'm going to be interviewing the author and posting a video of it soon. I, too, enjoyed some date calculations and came up with the present year of the storyworker being ~2110. You've gone much, much deeper here! I am going to make a note to bring up your comment to the author. Thanks for sharing this!

@@LeafbyLeaf Oh, very much looking forward to that interview! There is actually a weird date thing involving Sen's death at S.+1706 that I'd like to see brought up: no matter how you slice it, 1706 days after an April 17th would fall in the middle of December, though the storyworker mentioned that Sen's death was mid-January. I've listed December 18th, 2107 as her death date for now, but any insight into that would be neat! - Quick addendum: Sen's exact age as of her death was used to help corroborate this; this information was also used to determine Sen's birthday (her 18th was just 11 days after the Day of Notice), which is *separate* from her conception date (S.-6840, 18 years, 8 months, and 24 days pre-S.).

So, the story originates from a specific human subject named Sen. That makes the subject the original Sen... ;-)

Royall Tyler. Weeping in my sleeves. I wish someone had or would continue the story, jumping ahead say to the 1500s. The descendants of these clans are still alive and well in Japa. So are so many of these cultural practices. I went to Japan in October and am desperate to go back. Maybe I'll stream Shogun this weekend.

Chris have you ever read God, Human, Animal, Machine by Meghan O’Gieblyn? The description you gave of the themes in this book reminds me a lot of what the essays in this book deal with, specifically relating to transhumanism and AI.
