Hello The Other Guy, Great video once again. I saw a few things you might want to consider? 1. You need a fuse, or new style resettable breaker if possible but kind of expensive from the battery to your relay, fuse block. if something happens to that wire it is not fused. 2. The relay you used to turn on the fuse box is too small, it's only a 30/40 amp relay on a 100 amp fuse block. If you use more than 30 amps on your fuse block you're pulling too many amps through the relay. another mistake people make is putting 30 amp fuses in each slot, remember it's a total of a 100 amps on the box max and 30 amp max per slot most of the time. 3. Might consider using a bus bar instead of running all of your wires to the battery and making a wire hazard, too many connections connected together on one battery bolt. 4. Wire Awg, yours looks good but might think about what Awg you need for a 100 amp box. both positive and negative need to be the same Awg.

Hey man what fuse would you use from the battery, I’m running electric windows, light bars, winch, compressors. Should I get a 100A fuse? And some 4 gauge wire from the battery?
@robbyota5598
@robbyota5598 6 ай бұрын
@kizzamate Look on your fuse block. Most of them are rated for about 100 amps. Use whatever app fuse the block is rated for and the appropriate wire awg, and you're good to go.

@@robbyota5598 After much research because the thing doesn’t say it I’ve found out it’s 25A per circuit and 150AMP all up supposedly . So I’ll go with a 150 amp relay then. Thanks man

Several KZfaqrs showing installation of these fuse blocks are failing to protect the supply wire from the battery, or they are protecting it with the wrong wire size and wrong fuse size. There are lots of charts online that will tell you the proper wire size and the appropriate fuse for that wire size and the length of the wire. Otherwise, it's a fire waiting to happen.

I did this on my atv SxS a year ago following your steps and it has been working great. Today I hit a mud hole very fast trying to get through it. A chunk of mud splashed up and completely covered all of posts. Now the 87 post doesn't work. So I am guessing that the wet mud caused the relay to burn out. Is this right? Nothing was drawing on the fuse box but the low psi fuel pump which only draws 1 amp.

Also by looking at the negative terminal those screws are for your negative wires and the sides are for positive wires.

That was at 8:46 on the Video. Did you combine an existing power wire so as to make one connection? I ordered a fuse box and relay and installed it following your instructions. It's working beautifully. Thanks you.

Great video. Question for you from non-electrician. What is the relay wiring if I want fuse box power to be OFF when the ignition is ON, and fuse box power ON when the ignition is OFF... to hook up a 110V - 112V siren in the engine compartment. It is triggered by a wireless infrared motion sensor under car to scare away catalytic converter thieves.

@@theotherguy3083 That is what I want to do... it's a cheap Kerui motion sensor (AAA battery powered) and attached under the car to detect motion of a supposed catalytic converter thief under the car either at night (parked in front of house) or during the day (in a parking lot). The siren/receiver that comes with pack is designed to plug into a wall outlet. I want to mount it somewhere in the engine compartment and only powered when the car is turned off... for obvious reasons I don't want the sensor detecting the motion of the road while driving and triggering there siren ~ although that would be a fun story to tell grand kids. ... using your relay/fuse box fundamentals is there as way to power my siren except with the opposite polarity that your video describes - - fuse box/siren powered only when ignition is OFF. If I'm over thinking it, this is really not my territory of expertise and I appreciate any simpler approach to my diy dilemma.

Do i need a relay? Or can I just have the fuse box hooked directly to battery if I want power when the ignition is off?
@dblockbike
@dblockbike 2 жыл бұрын
Its a little backwards.. no disrespect but connect the fuse box directly to the battery... then run from the fuse box to the relay. The order should be.. 1. Battery 2 cable from battery to fuse block 3 fuse block to relay 4 relay to a distribution block or directly in to what you are wiring
@PaulHVAC1
@PaulHVAC1 Жыл бұрын
Tapping off the battery, always should be fused. Also not sure what devices you plan to take off the sub-panel but the main supply wire coming from battery is what? 14 gauge?? You need to understand a fuse or breakers job is to protect the wire, you have a small gauge wire supplying a potentially large sub-panel and its not fused....recipe for a disaster

I'm working on doing the same thing and you're direction has helped me out. Is it nenecessary to fuse up the wire from the battery to the aftermarket fuse box ? Also what guage wire do you use when connected to the relay ?

@robbyota5598
@robbyota5598 Жыл бұрын
Yes It is necessary to use a fuse between the battery and fuse block. also about 8Awg wire for a 100 amp fuse box. It might be ok to go a little smaller Age, 10Awg with a shorter run of cable and if longer you need bigger, smaller Awg cable like 4Awg.

If your using a fuse box, place the switch to the led bar between the fuse box & the device on the positive.

Use the fuse, fuse box to power a relay then to the LED lights. even though LED's do not draw a lot of current, you do not want to burn up your switch most are not made for any current load.

Thanks for this. I've been looking for this for ages. I was going to connect my fuse block power source to the alternator. But that means I only have power when the engine is turning over. One question, where do I connect the wire in the cabin fuse block. I was thinking tapping into a acc fuse there?. Is this correct.

Unless the relay block is the same voltage which is over a hundred amps or more you are lowering the power of the block. Because that looks only like a 30 amp relay and you do not have to put a relay on the fuse panel really because when the key dies the power dies unless you use a switch on a accessory which then a relay can be used along with the switch lower but if you put the relay between the battery and the whole fuse panel itself unless it is the same amperage as the block you are lowering the power of the block therefore disabling some of your voltage possibilities. Circuit breaker would be better. Relay for initial voltage increase supply for fuse not steady current at same voltage . Like using a 20 amp fuse for 500 watt amp and wanting watts to stay 500
