Beside destroying these s being a legitimate military target, these attacks are causing Russia too move air defenses to help protect them. That takes them off the front lines. I can’t emphasize more how important I think it is to cut refining capacity (and stores). In my opinion Putin will be removed at about 50% refining capacity. I think they are at about 81%. The refined products revenue are holding the kleptocracy together.
@MyFiddlePlayerАй бұрын
...and if the sanctions on Russian oil are working, then eliminating their stores and refining capacity should have no effect on the world market.
@richardkudrna7503Ай бұрын
My understanding is that since crude pumps too slowly it’s challenging to do high seas transfers so the bulk of “violations of sanctions” is done with high value refined products. Russia discounts and numerous people cash in big time. The world has plenty of refining capacity. There is a refinery near me that is running at maybe 10%. Anyway, I feel if Ukraine smashes refinery, Putin will fall as he can’t keep oligarchs in riches and supply the public and the military.

Hitting Russian fuel depots and refineries has a huge affect on Russia's ability to make money for ghe war effort and to provide fuel for jets, tanks, trucks and trains. If Ukraine can damage enough it will slow Russia down. And it will hurt their finances. There is sipposed to be an embargo on Russian fuel and a price cap. So l doubt it will do much for oil prices as they are anticipated.

The reason the US is asking for Ukraine to lay off the oil strikes - and the reason Ukraine should actually consider pausing the attacks on oil for now - is probably the upcoming US elections. High or unstable gas prices generally aren't good for the incumbent, and Ukraine very much wants the incumbent to beat the guy who admires putin in the upcoming elections.

Just a quick addition. As the US is selling oil and gas to Europe in place of what the Russians were supplying it's hard to understand why the US is saying what they said. The interesting part is that China and India have become big importers of Russian oil, which, because of big discounts, they are getting cheaper. Now Putin will want to keep them them happy so this will mean cutback in domestic supply, which is on top of the cutbacks from the lose of of these oil depots.
@Bob94390Ай бұрын

If an oil tank can be destroyed once, thereby stopping it from being used 100 times, that seems like a 99 % reduction to me. In preparation for the war, putler reduced delivery of gas in 2021.
