1976 , I was 6 years old , my grandfather died of cancer, that summer , my mother always sang along when this song came on the radio ! I didn't even know what death was then , but my mother lived her radio ! RIP mom

Summer, 1976. Southern California. I have just graduated from high school, and am 6 months into my first serious relationship..She is blond, 5-2, stunning...and I am in love. We take my just finished hot rod 56 Ford F-100 to El Dorado Park, and I wax it and shine on it while she sets up a picnic. The grass is green, the truck is metallic starfire blue. I am leaving town in 3 weeks for college. The truck only has an AM radio in it at first, and KRLA is playing this song in heavy rotation. You took me right back there with this, I kid you not...laugh all ya want, but I was there for a few minutes. I know where the 56 is. That little blond? She is right across from me, playing with one of our grandchildren. We will celebrate our 43rd anniversary this coming spring.

Oh memories of the 70s. Being a youngster listen to this while helping out dad on a job site. Now I’m 55, and dad is now 92, still with us but a shell of what he was as a working machine. Time marches on! Great tune well done , ty

The bed comes undone with the sun barely showing through the drapes and the quietness of the day. What I remember about this song after coming off the road with my band to re-discover my lady in waiting. Thanks for the memory of a loving time.

Somewhere along the line someone or some poll decided to crap on this song…it was overplayed in 76 but I always loved it. Great harmony and great memories of being 9 years old. I don’t give a crap… I’ll admit to anyone I love this song. Great job here.

Being a child of the 70s this tune was arguably one of the biggest 70s tunes (plus it was #1 during the Bicentennial I think...) You guys nailed this tune and the harmonies were sublime. I think I detected some harmony deviations from the original which completely made this a better surprise, so kudos to all involved!

@Dave Rucci Good ear. It's almost imperceptible, and I was contrasting the guitar sounds to the original, so I had to go back and listen to the harmonies. It's close to the original, though.

If they're singing it exactly the same way as the original recording, then the audio quality in this video is MUCH better (which we know it obviously is anyways) and you just can't hear every original harmony quite as clear as this. My favorite harmonies in this whole cover are just after the solo, right at 2:10 , where they all branch off on some interesting harmony transitions. I'm almost positive they don't do that in the original. Which, like I said, makes this version very interesting to listen to.

@@DaveRucci I listened to that part at 2:10 3 or 4 times. While I will listen to the original again at some point just to compare, I'm pretty much convinced that they did make some changes to that part. I had noticed some other slight differences in other areas, but that's to be expected since they're not the Starland Vocal Band. It is a well performed cover, no doubt about it. So far, every song they've covered has been done well.

THANK YOU ALL!!!!! I am a gen X American. I was 6 years old when this song hit big in 1976. As hard as the time was for me, this song and many others to made for an escape. I didn't even understand what most songs were really about then. Glad I didn't until 46 years later.......... You all nailed it again and bring happy memories to so many people here! God Bless!!!!

I'll never forget... In the late '70's I was a kid (born in 1970), and my family had gone to a local Italian restaurant named Pasquales, which was like a pre-Pizza Hut, Pizza Hut. This song came on, and having heard it before, my younger brother and I enthusiastically joined in on the choruses because we liked the thought of firing off fireworks in the afternoon. 💥 My modest mom and dad kept trying to get us on other subjects, but we were having as much fun as the Starland Vocal Band...only for different reasons. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 It actually wasn't very long ago when, as I began a nostalgic tour of old songs I liked as a young person, I began looking up the lyrics to the songs to see what they were actually saying. I got a very good laugh out of this one realizing why mom and dad didn't want us boys singing it in a crowded restaurant. This is a very, very spot-on cover HSCC! Great job.

No matter whichever song The HSCC absolutely smash, some non-fan just has to give a 👎. Never will understand it, coz they are without question the best cover band around. Great harmonies Pina, Kat, Danny & Jordan and lovin the arrangement as always Con. The opening 4 bars….. beautiful 🎼

Bloody amazing job!! And for those who like the song but don't know too much about music, the perfection of the singers' discordant harmonies at the end is nothing short of jaw dropping. You literally have to be perfect on your note, no margin for error, or those harmonies will stick out badly. I'm in awe. I'm not worthy!!

This is one of my favorites from the 70's and was a major hit and is still being played on oldies stations today. Love the new arrangement which for me is a smoother laid back country tinged version. The harmonies are a little different which gives it fresh sound. All in all another great job HSCC.
