Same. I just had a heavy feeling while watching it but i didnt cry. I did cry later on after i processed everything.

@@Jesstp true it is a movie you need to process! Can go back and watch again to pick up on subtle signs and words of what both of them were going though.

It's a FANTASTIC debut feature.....amazing performances.

I was wondering the same thing, but I was surprised to find out that there's something lonelier and darker in the movie that I overlooked. I recommend watching some reviews about this film here in KZfaq, they uncovered what really happened in the movie to me.

He is not her life anymore that trip was the last time she spent some meaningful time with him ....i think the film relayed that information with the ending....

Im my conclusion I think that calum either commits suicide or he just ghosts Sophie as a father because he feels he not good enough for her

after watching the movie for myself, and reading some reviews, i think calum actually did commit suicide. u could see throughout the film that he wasn't well, that something was wrong (maybe he was having depression or something like that?). adult sophie envisions scenes of him dancing in what appears to be a nightclub, and he's seen wearing the same clothes he wore when he saw her off at the airport. that is the last memory she has of him. i don't think calum could have moved away from her after that vacation because he seemed so happy and loving with her, so i faithfully believe that he committed suicide shortly after her. (+) the director and her father had a similar vacation, when she was 11 too. and then her father died.

I think the power of the film is in the ambiguity that forces us to create a picture for ourselves that's more intimate or more emotionally specific for us personally

@@hahahahahahahahahahahahaha64 Think it was more his longing to run away from his everyday life and get a job similar to a divers that made him so enthusiastic in the conversation. Your interpretation could be right too tho, although I got the vibe that he still loved the mother of Sophie and was devastated to learn she was getting married over the payphone (but tried to hide it from his daughter).
