Since I collect for nostalgia and not value I'm very excited to see the pricing dropping.

I’m a buyer and I have a nice collection, just went to the TORG convention in Ohio last weekend. I bought 6 games, checked eBay and made offers each time and I was only denied 2 times on offers. So I said thank you, walked away, and when I got home I ordered the two games for the price I wanted to pay.

The sealed/graded market absolutely burst. The people who were paying those outrageous prices bought those items only as speculative investments, not as collectors. The video game industry (in terms of people who play the games the collect) will never burst imo. There’s too many people on earth that play video games on a regular/ daily basis. Sure prices of games will fluctuate, whether the interest in the series died out, a remake of a newer system releases, but I don’t think the majority of games will ever become “worthless”. The video game aftermarket (graded or not) is strongly correlated with the state of the economy. Since we are in an economic slump, it’s no surprise the prices on many games have declined 15,20, or 30%.

Honestly, I feel like we're the last generation that cares about physical media and retro games in that format. The best example is that my father was really into troy trains and I had no interest. This doesn't surprise me as prices have got way too ridiculous. For me personally I would never pay a large amount for a game as it won't hold it's value forever. Maybe at some point we'll get back to early 2000's prices for retro games and maybe not. I really enjoyed this video and think it's a great topic. Hopefully the starts will align with our schedules and would be a great topic for Calling All Retro Gamers. I'm glad you bring up that retro games are always competing against free roms. For modern digital collections of old games really have to offer something special like Atari 50 as I am not just going to pay for roms with nothing else special. For me Evercade carts are prices right at $20 or less and about what I want to play for several games on physical media, etc.

You're absolutely right. My daughter's generation millennial/gen z will not care about anything pre N64. At some point interest in older games will just fade

This is true. With the shift to digital media the current gen of gamers will not want to play the retro games, much less play on original hardware.

All great points. I hope prices go down as a collector I don't care if the value of what I have goes down, I want to add to it without breaking the bank. I'm in it for the fun of collecting and playing, not as an investment so the lower the prices the better for me.

Definitely on the decline i’ve noticed it too and now i’ve seen many videos on youtube about the subject. N64 and GameCube are wayyy down and still falling. But the problem is people are still asking ridiculous prices for everything. It’s gonna come to a point were it all just sits

I hate to say this, but I emulate all the retro games I want to play. I was trying to collect all the older games that I had growing up so I could replay them, but the prices have been so high that it keeps me from buying.

Just like anything else , people take advantage of the market it’s inevitable. To see FB Marketplace posts for Wii shovelware said it all to me

Video game pricing follows the economy. When there isn't excess money going around the market falls. COVID money is about gone now so the retro market is going to tank as well.

This has happened in the comic book collecting hobby as well. And also in the Sports Card hobby. Just everything resetting from that Covid Spike where everything went through the roof.

❌️5:42;"Disc rot" is a bogeyman used to scare people into going all all-Digital. I have CDs from the early 90s and apart from a few light scratches from use, they work completely fine.

Good topic. All collectibles went crazy during Covid and free money from the gov and delay of student loan payments gave people extra money. Now oct started the repayment of student loans for most. Inflation went wild and now a reset is happening, but not just games. Two big comic stores put out a post they are not buying funko pops. I also collect comics and that is imploding as well. I’m seeing massive sell offs of collections. Does this mean games are easier to find. I would say not yet. I went to a sub sale in Oct and I was there at 7am and the lady said I was the 4th person to ask for games.

Yeah marketplace is still loaded with people asking more than retail for games in general with few deals to be had. It does seem like our generation will be the last to care about a lot of this stuff. Appreciate the comment as always 🍻

Funkos are getting harder to sell, as people that got into them in 2020 were treating them like an investment for the sole purpose of selling, and when they saw how much the value of them dropped they sold their collections.

The video game bubble definitely didn't burst. Otherwise alot of games would be back to 2010 to 2014 prices at like 10 to 25 a game for the most part. What you're seeing is the pandemic gaming prices going away and prices going back to where it was in 2018 and 2019. Metroid prime is because a remake came out
