They really aren't, and haven't. They aren't "vanishing". You get brave folk going above and beyond the call of duty often. There are young people constantly doing nightmarish heroic deeds that never get talked about. People haven't changed.

I was a coastie stationed in the Bay Area-San Fran in 1974. The 36 footers were being phased out but there were a few still being used that I saw. The crews didn't use the few there at the time as the 44 and 45 footers were the mainstay, but still talked about the 36 footers legendary seaworthiness in any kind of soup nature could throw at them. They were tough nuts and am proud folks today preserve and appreciate what these crews and their patrols boats do. They are Guardians of the Sea and daily live up to the motto Semper Paratus.

VideosAreDrugs we are all great in our own way this man was the true example behind the word hero he did not hesitate to look death in the face and drive towards it and do what people said could not be done he defied death inmate death back down as he carried those Souls back to land

Oh yes, Chatham is a typical Cape Cod town. People lived and died in the place for generations, dating back to the colonization of Massachusetts. The Nickersons, for example, are the descendants of the first man who settled in the area.

The book tells more of what happened the pendleton crew. It's an excellent read.

Just watched the movie. That part when they arrive back to the port kind of ruins it. People are not even just a bit wet, despite having swum in freezing cold water in clothes like an hour ago and just having arrived from a stormy sea and snow falling. Not only that, they don't seem to be cold or exhausted after all this.
