I don't know why this song makes me so happily sad and tearful: I was living in the States when I was in CSULB college after independently studying my middle and high school courses in S/Korea. I went to America with an airplane ticket after years of saving Korean money at the time. The music was with me in my car all the time...I do not know if the song was that sad: I am always weeping to listen to this music.

A lot of Seger songs are like journeys. They start humble, get exciting, hit highs, hit lows, and finish strong. Most songwriters are boring verse chorus verse chorus verse chorus. This song, still the same, fire inside, mainstreet, roll me away, etc… all emotional cinematic roller coasters about vague characters, who could be any of us, experiencing “life” moments. Still the Same is obviously about a gambler… but is it really!?
