That's the BH I want..He was the first player that I can remember who could punish the ball from both sides--over and over.

No other player in HISTORY had a backhand that makes that sound every shot! Listen to the sound of most of the other players then listen to Agassi's...there is pow and then there is Agassi...POW! It just sounds like it is crushed every time (and it is) so beautiful to to hear and see. Was the first player to just pummel shots...and could still compete with big hitters today if he were around. Can you imagine the rallies he and Djokitch (yes I spelled it wrong..lol) would have? Miss you Andre!!!

I trained with him when I was also one of nick Bolletieri’s protégés in 1985 and his backhand then was his best shot apart from his speed on the court. He definitely became a much better player in time and truly has the best two handed backhand and best return of serve (both sides) than anyone. He became a legend. I’m so proud of him. Rock on Andre

novak's backhand is great, but it's really a confidence meter, he only hits down the line winners when he is confident, agassi does it whenever.

agassi plays an attacking game. that’s what sets him apart. he can hit winners and ridiculous angles. his hand eye coordination was off the chart. never saw him framed or shanked a ball.. unlike today’s players who put emphasis on topspin just to keep the ball in play and wait for the opponents to make mistakes. only sampras booming and precision serve could give him trouble. that highlight against federer and nadal though, he already was playing with a back injury and yet he pushed them to deciding sets. if he played in today’s era, he would give the big3 a lot of problems and they wouldn’t reach 20 slams.

Andre Agassi's two-hand backhand is one of my favorites and is a thing of beauty. When I first time learned to play tennis, I naturally learned to do the two-hand backhand. Ever since watching Agassi play and saw his backhand, I became a fan of Agassi and his backhand is always awesome especially those down the line and cross-court winners. When I hit a winner while playing high school tennis with my backhand, although I'm not really a competitive player, I think about Agassi. He's definitely my all-time favorite player.

Agassi's persona annoys me. But he had the best crosscourt 2hander in history. His down the line 2hander was no joke either. I've never seen anyone take a full cut with a 2hander and hit clean winners off of 145 mph serves, like Agassi.

Awesome backhands. He made it look so easy.
@nattydredz77 жыл бұрын
That's not really a fair comparison though. Djokovic relies on defense first, transitioning to offense when he gets his chance. Agassi was for the most part an offensive player- taking the ball early, moving his opponents side to side and taking huge cuts on serve return.

I also think that in terms of groundstrokes, nobody has been able to surpass Agassi's consistency from the baseline. The only other player that I can think of who has the precision from the baseline that Agassi had is Federer. Federer can actually do many of the same things Agassi could (take the ball early, catch it late, change direction of the ball, touch, angles, etc) but Federer's backhand was never as consistent as Agassi's and is more likely to break down under pressure.
@harjap9542 Жыл бұрын
Well Novak surpassed him imo 😅

@wesmartin9112 жыл бұрын
True. Agassi's forehand was great, but a lot of other players in his era had an equal (if not better) forehand than Agassi (ie: Courier, Sampras). And later in his career, other players such as Roddick, Blake and Federer were able to match or surpass Agassi on the forehand side. But his backhand was always his more consistent weapon and very few players had a backhand that could match Agassi's. That's what made him so dangerous from the baseline, the ability to hit winners off both sides.

@datacipher10 жыл бұрын
True.....anyone who thinks Roddick's forehand can compare to Agassi's, doesn't know tennis at all. Roddick could match Agassi for power off the forehand certainly, from well behind the baseline. He was not able to take the ball anywhere near as early as Agassi, nor could he shorten his swing up like Agassi, nor could he hit a FH return like Agassi (in fact that is comparing one of the greatest returns to one of the worst (for a top player) of all time). Much of this also applies to the BH.
@kleefton10 жыл бұрын
I don't think Roddick's forehand compares to Agassi's. Agassi was the first guy who could hit the ball equally well off both sides. He took the ball early and hit it relatively flat. When he was playing well no one could quite deal with him from the baseline back in the days. Only the best of the big servers had a prayer against him. It's a shame he wasn't fully dedicated for all of his career because who knows how much more he would have accomplished.

No. His FH was excellent, but nowhere near the greatest. In fact, his own coach - the man who turned his career around, Brad Gilbert admitted that some players probably surpass Agassi on the FH (he mentioned Sampras and some of the spaniards), but he felt that Agassi's FH and BH combined was probably better than anything any player has had off the ground. Even early in his career, Lendl and Courier were clearly - at minimum, his equal off the forehand (though Agassi could take it earlier)
