Thank you so much for this wonderful production. I am listening more and more to these audiobooks and plays as television here in Australia is truly awful. It is a return to the 1950’s for me😊. I agree with another commentator regarding John Woodvine. A wonderful actor. Thanks again.

The Great John Woodvine as the Doctor. What a magnificent voice he had . He had a long and distinguished career but never became a household name . Very handsome too !

Shame it leaves off the epilogue from the original broadcast which was the doctors written account that he had intended as a record of Poirots failure but now ends wishing Poirot had never retired to grow vegetable marrows.

*Spoilers* It's amazing how an audiobook that is more than six hours long can be condensed into a 90 minute-long radio play. Very enjoyable! One aspect of this book, which is not touched on in the play, is that Dr. Sheppard reminded Poirot strongly of Captain Hastings, whom he missed very much. That adds considerable poignancy. The television adaptation is also very cleverly done, and includes Chief Inspector Japp, who is not in the book. Thank you for the upload!

What happened to Hastings?
@dronesclubhighjinks Жыл бұрын
@@cassandraseven3478 after the book “murder on the links“ (1923), Hastings married, and moved to Argentina to live on a ranch. He ended up coming back to England sometimes and helping Poirot again. Hastings is in the last Poirot book named “Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case” in which they are both paying guests at Styles, the setting of Agatha Christie’s very first novel, in which Hastings was a guest there and Poirot was a Belgian refugee from World War I, who was staying in the village nearby. That book is “The mysterious affair at Styles“.

But in the Series, the twist is non-existent almost, since Dr. Sheppard doesn't even follow Poirot everywhere as his position in the story is taken by Japp

I don’t think I could ever live in the UK. Secret meetings in the folly, in the greenhouse, sometimes two and three places and times all on the same night. The silent coming and goings in an English household, without the home owners knowing is just unnerving! Thank goodness for home security alarms but the police sirens, photographers, barking dogs, nosey neighbors … .

I don’t mind ads at the beginning but every five minutes through the first 15 is too much. Are they going to stop if I continue listening?
@personabc87658 ай бұрын
Totally agree, it ruins it . Adverts in the beginning and even in the middle once is acceptable.

Not bad....but the Poirot charater's accent is rather 'hit and miss' I wonder what the UK constabulary think of Agatha Christie, given the Police in her Poirot & Marple stories are inevitably clueless

John Moffatt is perfect as Poirot.

Yes. He really is. It's ironic, but when I listen to these radio broadcasts, I'm always listening to Johm Moffatts voice, but picturing David Suchet's looks. 😏

Something tells me that Agatha Christie probably wasn't an advocate for suicide prevention 🤔

Agatha's plots especially in her later years could be extremely ropey - to say the least . But this and The ABC Murders were superb . Poirot's deductions here are simply faultless and a triumph of reason and logic...
