"Even a video on O-rings will do"... so says KZfaqr Nissim Einat.
Well... be careful what you wish for...
This is a real training video, and shows the correct way to handle O-ring seal installation, as specified by the manufacturers of aviation gas turbine engines.

It was a pleasure to watch someone that knows what the hell they are doing and why they are doing it, even for the so-called simple O ring installation process. Thank you sir.

Hey Jay, Thanks for that video I'm a metal engineer and I've learn something new today!!! Like I always say to any apprentice. "In engineering when you finish college doesn't mean you know everything...you will usually learn something new at least once a week until you retire!!!"

I never imagined how entertaining and informative a video about a simple task like installing an o-ring could be. thanks a lot jay :-))

Good video again. I’ve been a plant mechanic for 38years, and never thought of installing an o ring like that. Thanks

I am rebuilding a very old and rare fuel injection set up this weekend that is full of o rings this video was just in t6ime I will be using your method. Thanks for all the great videos! also "clean enough to put in your eye" I will try that on my son who I am trying to instill the need to be spotless in his work

Nice tip. Another reason for being 100% confident in your work is, unlike the Chevy, an aircraft can't just pull over to the side of the road if they spring a leak.

Great info. Working on my car and replacing all the gaskets and o-rings I come across. I was just rolling the o-rings on. Now I know better! Thanks

Variable cycle engines are ones that can change their configuration for mixed flight conditions. There are very few working examples but a notable one is the YF120 engine used for the ATF program. It could close off the engine bypass to route all incoming air into the engine core to increase the thrust and efficiency at higher speeds and altitudes where turbojets become more efficient than low bypass turbofans.

Good point. The old O-rings are only used to compare to stock and ensure the new one is the right size. They are carefully removed, more to avoid damaging the part they are installed in/on.

(In non aircraft situations) Taking something apart without damage helps when you realize you don't have the correct replacement part and have to reassemble what you have. This happened last week with the safety catch release valve on my wheel alignment rack. I took the "o-ring" out of the spool valve to find it was washer. No parts on hand for that. ...Packed some synthetic grease it in to improve the seal, put it back on the lift, and ordered a new valve... Your tools, parts, and fasteners videos are my favorites. One nice thing about working alone is that there is no one there to throw way my improvised tools. Thanks. Jeff, The Alignment Guy (R) Mpls.

Yes! ... this method shown in this video works very well for moving an O-ring over threads without damaging it.

Great video Jay; guess I'll start saving larger diameter "O" rings for use as an installation tool. Most of the ones I deal with are smaller, as in carbs or bike sized engines. The pick can sometimes do the trick... thanks for the great tip anyway! Darren

I thought this is a waste of time to watch a five minute vid just for o-rings... Well I was wrong! I'm working as an electrician on commercial turbofans and the for the rare times I have to install one, I haven't ever got any instructing. Good points to remember. So thanks, I'll use this info in my work.

i have used wax string to hold flat rubber gaskets in place that wont fit otherwise when a fit a tight pipe flange clearance. all you do once togather is untie the string and it slides out of way cause of the wax covering. even ribbon type dental floss works same way

jay that is a really cool way to put o rings i might never do such but it is really cool.I want to ask a question is there is any jet engine of any type or design ever used the coanda effect.second question what is a cold turbine and what makes different from ordinary turbines.third question what is highest pressure ever achieved in a jet engine compressor and what is the common average pressure in present engines.finally what is a variable cycle jet engine and is it better than single cycle.

I love your attitude on being 100% confident in your work. Too bad you see so much work (any work) being done with the attitude of "That's good enough." This is also a neat trick! Just wondering if it would work with a lip type seal like in a clutch/brake master/slave cylinder?

How careful are you at removing old hard o-rings? Here you're working with a new o-ring and don't need to waste it, but are you as careful when you replace the old ones or is the care more about protecting the carbon seal?

Hi, this is a good lesson, everything counts when doing mechanic work, single things make a perfect work! I did like that t shirt, JET CITY TURBINE! Do you have those for sale? If I talk to my son, can you send it to California? Thank you again fro sharing yours videos! Do you know anything about GM TH700R4 transmissions? My truck doesn't want to go in reverse! hahahaha, just asking!
