Last October we gave you the opportunity to ask questions here on KZfaq and that farm owner Frank Franzen would answer. The time has finally come! No stone is left unturned as he gives honest answers to all of your questions. How long does it take to pay back those 8 Beco trailers? What crops will be grown in the near future? Chapeau! Een agrarisch ondernemer die duidelijk zijn bedrijf kent en die de passie voor de stiel niet kan verbergen. Als jonge landbouwer kan ik enkel zeggen dat ik naar dit soort mensen opkijk!

Such interesting insights. Mr. Franzen seems like a very humble businessman with an acute sense of making the necessary decisions. Agriculture is for sure not an easy sector to do business in, as there are so many risks that you cannot control, and many factors you can only react to. I am sure his family farm will prosper, given his ability to make agile changes despite the size of his operation. Good luck from a small dairy farm in Finland!

I'd love to hear more about why carrots ended up being taken out of the crop rotation, and how difficult is it to let go of a crop in the rotation that you've invested heavily in? (machinery, storage, etc)

The main reasons were the risks involved as Frank said plus the price of course.

@@Agrifotodotnl Thanks for the response!, Yeah it seems that there is a big step toward taking pressure off during the fall season as is understandable with so many late harvested crops. I was just curious about the bigger thinking process behind it and if options such as strawing the carrots to lengthen the season where considered etc. as is done in Scotland and other parts of the uk.

@@wouterm8144 Strawing carrots was done in Holland as well 40-50 years ago you can do that in light free draining land. In the polders, Texel and North Holland some farmers now do it again.
