Recently datalink has been added to the Apache in DCS. We look at at configuring it in Mission Editor and in Cockpit. Then we look at how to transfer data to other Apaches using the COM and TSD screens.

You can actually have George store a target in the system. There is a key binding for something called "TADS Store"? or something like that. Whenever you have George looking at a target you can press that button and he will lase and store which will create a Target point. You can then type in the T0# or select it via the cursor and then send it just like you did. Its a little more streamlined than what you showed in the video.

Cap saying “send me your PP”/“I’ll share my PP” just shows how childish I am still and still giggling hearing it again! Yes grow up Bird

I can see why the army finally moved to Link 16 in the new AH-64E model, this is just painful to set up.

You can also request a PP from your wingman and that request will automatically be replied to and place the PP symbol directly on the TSD. @19:58 if you press button B2 along the bottom row it will change to "RQST" When you go to press "SEND" over on button R6 it will then send a PP request over the net to your selected wingman.

SC doesn't stand for secure, it stands for Single Channel, as in Single Channel/Plain Text as opposed to Frequency Hop/Cypher Text. When you put it on SC, you're really just using an unsecured radio. I'm not sure if FH is modeled, since the technicalities of that part are probably classified, though it should be easy enough to mimic without violating operational security.

Huh? Do the other members need to be on VHF as well and same Freq?

Fortunately you and your buddy can set it up yourselves from the cockpit without requiring anything to be pre-determined by the mission creator.

Generic question if I may. When playing single player, say, a DCS Liberation message, if you send things like "report position" or something like that, will the AI respond? Sorry if that's a dumb question, and it is a dumb question if it requires that this stuff be set up and just isn't available. I can also go test it I guess. Just wonderning.

Data Link is mainly for synchronizing attacks and avoiding shooting the same targets by mistake by different Apaches.. Very useful.

@0:12 you scared me, I thought my speaker is starting to break. @10:40 that's completely wrong. Every preset has settings for all radios. The white text indicates the primary radio for that preset, which is a visual aid only and doesn't do anything else. Selecting UHF on the top just brings up which radio settings you want to apply to the UHF radio from that preset. In fact you can see at the very start that PRE1 is set to 225.0MHz AM for UHF. Also SC is not "Secure Channel", it is "Single Channel", which is basically the exact opposite of secure. If you want it to be secure you want FH, or "Frequency Hopping", which is not implemented, but it basically selects a random frequency based on the GPS time, so that everyone with the same hop set is on the same frequency at the same time. @11:35 the callsign is arbitrary and doesn't need to match, it's for reference only, as later displayed in the various datalink features. the only thing that truly matters is the ID. Changing your own callsign literally doesn't do anything. Likewise everyone can give their own callsign to what is your DL ID and that is what will show up as freetext in the IDM ident when you sent a PP, or as the push button option text when they select who to send data to. So you can have yourself as P-1, someone else as IDT and yet another person as MRN and yet someone else as DMB. and everyone would still be able to send and receive data from and to you just fine. Also callsigns are 5 characters, I think, but the freetext for the controlmeasures is 3 characters, so it gets truncated. So typically I just use 3 letter callsigns. So actually they needn't actually abbreviate the words I used for your callsign because they all fit within 5 characters. @13:25 you can also add them manually by clicking the empty spot and then selecting a C/S at the top, again this is arbitrary and only used for reference in the CM freetexts and DL targets/originators. Once a valid callsign was entered then the ID option shows up. @14:37 you only get NAK when you get no responses. If you send the message out to 5 aircraft and only one of them gets it, you get no errors. @15:10 wrong again. You send 4 lines of texts, each of which is created individually. When you click send there in free text, it sends all 4 lines. For example if you se Text 1 to "Hello" and Text 2 to "World", clicking send would send "Hello World", regardless of if you selected any of the texts or not.
