It probably helps to strip it, slow it down, and really let the lyrics take center stage away from the classic video. He gets a chance to display the true substance of the song.

I'm an grizzled old man who has kept any old feelings and emotions locked up in a dusty box. And now I find myself crying, thinking about so many in my life who were gone "in a day or two." That's the beauty of music. It effortlessly opens up what we try so damn hard to lock away.

God bless you. I'd hold you while you cried, and I'd never tell a soul or make you talk about it ever again. Take care, sweetheart. Xo💕🌺🌸😊 I'd like to add something. You men, so hard working, so unable to cry, so deserving of so much better than you receive; thank you. Thank you for just being a man. Thank you for helping to keep our world turning. We'd all be so hopelessly lost without you. You men, so deserving of so much more, quietly suffering to keep us all going, thank you. I appreciate all of you. I can't and don't want to imagine what my life would be if it weren't for men doing the things that women aren't willing or able to do. I have a feeling you're underappreciated, but I appreciate you. I really do. Thank you😊❤❤❤

I was in 5th grade when this song was a hit and there was a boy named Carl who rode my bus and I thought he looked exactly like the lead singer of a-ha. (Which is ridiculous since Carl was all of 10 years old.) Last day of school they allowed us to sit whereever we wanted on the bus (it was assigned seating the rest of the year) and Carl sat with me. I guess he moved away after that and I never saw him again. I believe he was my first little IRL crush.

I was 17 when this song came out. I'd play the tape in my '82 Toyota Supra with the volume up and windows rolled down, driving fast down PCH. Such an appropriate song embodying the frivolousness of youth. The absolute brilliance of it is that by simply changing the tempo and instrumental, along with an amazing vocal, the exact same lyrics are transformed into a completely different meaning, especially for those who lived that frivolous youth back in the '80s and now reminisce over a time that has long passed. I could never have imagined back then what my life would be like 40 years later, or that I'd be paying the original and this newer versions for my 6 year old at bedtime in 2024. FYI, he loved both. 😊

Hello @MCFCRuss Brown.. very nice words indeed. But to be honest, at least to me it was somehow different than you describe it. I am one of those women watching Morten sing ... ..but what I felt went significantly beyond the nostalgia for a younger self or a teenage crush . What happened there those nights was immense! The atmosphere, the communion between the band & musicians/guest artists, the interaction with the audience, the arrangements, the incredible landscape of Giske and the midnight sun. Sitting there, so far from home, listening to the band you love, I assure you ... it was much more than going back in time. It was about the present: feeling alive and incredibly lucky. And grateful that 2010 was not "the end of the road", as Magne said back then. Had it been so, this version would not have existed.

I never knew I was carrying this song around on my cell phone, but that one day, on my hike from the north of germany, to the south of spain, it came up. I set up camp in the pyrenees mountains of catalunya, spain. Survived a thunderstorm with very heavy rains and hail just 2 hours before, but was standing in the sun now, watching the dark cloud disapear over the horizon. Now that moment is forever connected with this song and i hope i can remember it for the rest of my days.

One morning when I was a little girl, I watched my dad take my mom and twirled her on the kitchen floor while this song was playing on the radio. I came between them and hugged as hard as I could, not wanting to be left out. So we danced, all three of us, in the sunbeam of the morning. It was so perfect. Now, both of them are gone, but one day, I was with my six year old son and heard this song being played by some street performers while we were out shopping. I picked him up and and we started dancing to the music. He was confused at first but then started laughing, but some day, I know I will leave him too, and I hope he will have someone to dance with to this song and remember me as how I remembered my parents

I know no one in the audience, but I feel certain I can read their minds as they remember time with friends and how much they loved not only the song of their youth but every moment that surrounded and was our formative years. I've said it before and I'll it often more I know we were the luckiest teens to have the 80s as our time. Love each and every one of you.

Man, this song hits different than the original. The original was like live life, take a chance, be daring, take advantage of the spontaneous relationships, because it's gone in a day or two. But this version transforms into taking life slow, savor the moments, I'm here for you now, because in a day or 2 I'm gone forever. It's not about the song. It's about how the lively song aged with the people who shone in a youth long forgotten. It's remembering who you are and who you once were. It breaks my heart.

was thinking the exact same thing. especially with how the camera pans onto the audience to see that they're all middle aged people reminiscing about how they listened to this song as kids

You know a song is perfect, when you slow it down, and it reveals a completely different meaning to it, and somehow is more beautiful. This song is the "Beethoven's 5th" of its generation.
