Ahmedabad, Gujarat Breakfast EP 1 | Das Khaman, Laxmi Ganthiya Rath

Ahmedabad has huge varieties for breakfast, I noticed that if i decide to eat one thing every day in breakfast then one month food journey will also fall short to cover all breakfast items that are available in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
In this food journey i covered some of the amazing eateries of Ahmeabad, i am sure all the foodies will enjoy this episode and other food tour episodes of Gujarat.
This is Episode 1 of Ahmedabad, Gujarat breakfast series, Episode 2 follows after this.
Following are the details of food joints visited by me in this food journey:
Day - 1
Oshwal: Famous for fafda and Jalebi. They have 2 joints, i visited their food joint which is near Income tax area.
Fafda Chutney - Rs. 70 for 2pcs 90gms
Jalebi - Rs. 35 for 2 pcs

Laxmi Ganthiya Rath: This shop is very famous for its chutney, i got reference that people go to this shop to eat fafda and Gathiya because they get so tasty chutney at this shop.
Note: Ganthiya is pronounced at Gaathiya… n is silent.
At this shop i got opportunity to see how is papita ki chutney made, plus i also learnt and showed on the video how is patra made.
Ganthiya - Rs. 40 for 100 gm
Patra - Rs. 23 for 100 gm.
Masala Chaas - Rs. 12 - one serving.

Das Khaman Shop: Very famous and very old shop, about 100 year old.
Serves 7 varieties of khaman and many varieties of Dhokla. Everything at this shop tasted so nice that its hard to explain in words.
At this shop i learnt the difference between khaman and Dhokla… I recorded the making process of both khaman and Dhokla so that viewers of this channel could also learn about it.
Sev Khamani - Rs. 260 per kg
Tam Tam Khaman - Rs. 260 per kg
Sandwich Dhokla - Rs. 220 per kg
Green Fry Khaman - Rs. 260 per kg

Harish Ji, Colocassia (Arbi) Leaves and Suran(Yam) irritate the throat and mouth. Cooking them with tamarind or kokum is extremely necessary to safely consume them.Never eat raw arbi leaves.

thanks for this info... Suran i think i mentioned about my experience at home in Mumbai video... arbi ka patta... you mentioned... i am going to pin this comment for few days so people can read this... It developed itching on my throat, took few hours for the itching to go....you know how it started - i wanted to just taste by one bite then another as i could not find any taste... then it was like trying to hunt some taste... and i had the whole leaf..... thanks for the input.....

visa2explore Most Welcome Harish Ji.When I watched you eating the leaf, I anticipated there would be trouble. One should never consume it raw.Even if it's cooked without tamarind or any souring agent these symptoms shall occur.Applying tamarind juice or pulp on the affected area shall provide relief

Thank you for the Khaman and Dhokla clarification. I always thought it was the other way round. Glad you didn' t fall ill with eating the arbi leaves. The antidote is imli or sour curd.

Pichhle 6 mahine se me asrwa area maine khaman ..ke liye bahut puchha lekin mila nahi..aur mila to surat jaisa nahi.. Ab. Mujhe yehh das khaman k bare mai pata chata hai.. Really nice video sir, For eating arbi's leaf, you have to cut out the leaf veins (patte ki nas) that is visible at 8:29 and even the small ones between the leaf, if you don't remove it, you'll feel itching sensation. We cut it off before making Patra. Something that my mother told me 😄

Harish Ji-my husband and I watch your videos all the time and love them. Arbi and yam species have many varities. They are widely used in the Pacific Islands which is where we are from. Dalo or Taro roots and leaves are cooked in coconut milk and is a favorite. Patra is also made from the leaves. You should try looking up our Fiji Islands and learn more about our foods. My ancestors are from MP region. I think you will find it very interesting. Keep up the good work and thanks.

Arbi leaves contains cystoliths and raphides (micro thorns) which get pierced inside our mouth and throat when we eat that. After eating, consuming any citric fruit including lemon and tamarind reduces the problem as the acid in that fruit destroyes raphides.

Sir, you are too good. I'm watching your videos since past 6 hours non stop. Today is the first time I came across your videos, and I feel like sitting and watching all of them. Well done. I live in US, and like the others away from home, I miss India. I love the way you present our vibrant culture, tradition and food bhandar to us. Most youngsters fall into the traps of fast food chains. They don't realize how it affects their health. I am very foodie, or it would be more apt to say I was very foodie. I can't express enough how these fast foods with maida, cheese and preservatives affect our health and harmones. I miss our Indian food a lot. I have taken my little step towards healthy life in this new world full of junk food. My only advice to my friends back home is to not to fall for the western fast food chains. i do lot of work out - good question - i gained 3 and a half kg weight after Gujarat and Shimla tour.... till today morning i have been able to lose only 2 kgs.... but yes i am committed to running daily and exercising as well want to reach back 80 kgs before i leave for Meghalaya.....

महाराष्ट्र मे पात्रा को डीप फ्राय किया जाता है, गुजरात मे उसे सिर्फ तडका दिया जाता है। अरबी का पत्ता ऐसे ही न खाये उसे खूजली रहती है, आपने देखा होगा की हॉटेल वालो ने उसमे इमली ऍड की जो इसी के लगे ताकी खूजली न आये। धन्यवाद
