If I had to guess as to why Sabine's Jedi training with Ahsoka is off screen, its probably to tell it in the new season of Tales of the Jedi and bring back the original voice actors

Also sabine was somewhat younger....to try to begin training at this current time would go against traditional jedi training.... that's if Ahsoka tried traditional training

6:38 To be fair, during Rebels, Sabine did receive lightsaber training from Kanan, fought battles with the Dark Saber, and as a Mandalorian already has blade training. I'm not surprised she's actually still decent with a blade, but its clear her force abilities are extremely lacking, and she's obviously overconfident of her abilities.

The issue with saving Kanan is the same reason Ezra couldn’t save him in Rebels; if he’s pulled out, Ezra Hera and Sabine all die. That was his final lesson to Ezra.

Baylan called it “the Path to Peridea”…… and the Eye of Scion that Morgan is building is a massive hyperspace booster ring, similar to what the Jedi star fighters in the prequels used, big enough to bring Thrawn’s Star Destroyer, the Chimaera, back from the galaxy he’s stuck in.

Wasn't Thrawn deposited in the Unknown Regions? Which is still part of the same galaxy. If he was sent to another galaxy altogether, then why even bother coming back? Just start conquering the solar systems in the new galaxy, right? If he is really that far away, why bother making the journey back?

@@genx7006it was never specified that he was taken to the Unknown Regions, if that's where he and Ezra had went they wouldn't need assistance to get back, that's where Thrawn's species is from. Thrawn joined the Empire in order to enlist their help against an enemy the Chiss are facing in the Unkown Regions called the Grysk, it's not about conquering a people for him, and no one is saying he hasn't been marshaling forces in anticipation for his return

Han Solo died because the saber went theough his heart. Sabine survived because it went through her side gut. 🤷‍♂️

@@Uouttooo After thinking for a few days, I remembered Qui Gon as well! You could probably say that was him knowing and accepting his death, much like his apprentice does later, so who knows if he may have made it like (most of) the others. It's funny to think another 'Saber Survivor' was the guy who stabbed him in the first place though 🙂

Sabine picked up the lightsaber because she was thinking of Ezra. Later when she had decided she was “ready” she got out her Mando gear. It was symbolic of her being prepared to unite all her abilities. They are definitely setting up the time when Sabine joins up with Grogu. That is going to be awesome! The reason Sabine didn’t die was because the strike missed her vital organs. It’s the same reason Joel survived in TLoU. Of course Joel didn’t have the benefit of high tech bacta healing and had to rely on Ellie’s ability to procure antibiotics. It’s a testament to the quality of that show that we believed that was possible. The only thing I missed was seeing Sabine in a Bacta tank :)

The opening of episode one is a dark inversion of The Phantom Menace opening. I like a lot of the visual parallels from the first episode that many hardcore fans would pick up on straight away.

Rebels is so far Filoni’s best work, and from what I can tell he agrees, he seems very proud of Rebels, this show looks like it’s only gonna get better and enrich the already beautiful story of the ghost crew family.

Yeah, great, except Qui-Gon's went through the center of his chest, where his heart and spine are, and Sabine's didn't. Qui-Gon was alive long enough for Obi-Wan to have an entire duel with Maul, but OK, "instantly", sure. I see context and nuance aren't important to you.

@@kellywilliams1332 No, the point is that getting shot or stabbed through the heart will kill you, and getting stabbed elsewhere in the torso doesn't necessarily. Unlike OP, who can't tell the difference between where the heart is and isn't.

Regarding the 'cultural appropriation' by using East Asian names. I don't think that is the case. Star Wars has always used a variety of cultural influences (Japanese in particular). There have always been for example many Indian (Sanskrit language) names in SW: Asoka - Emperor of India who after giving up violence pushed Buddism from India to the rest of Asia Yoda - means Warrior Shakti - the female creative energy force Depa - light/lamp Padme - lotus flower / symbol of the Hindu goddess lakshmi Pooja - worship

I’m going to assume Dawson movements are limited due to the Ashoka head piece she needs to wear. I’m enjoying this show and loved Rebels but one of my pet peeves with both is the writing to drive the plot so often revolves around someone saying “Don’t do this” the someone doing that and it goes badly as they were warned it would.

The beginning fight was an obvious tip of the hat to the Vader fight in Rogue One. I thought it was cool.. And now that we've lost Mr. Ray, it's nice for him to be immortalized in that way and to have that as part of his legacy.

Both Solo and that Capt. took a lightsaber through the heart . Cauterized or not that wound is fatal. Sabine got it lower . Around the liver . Dangerous,but if treated quickly it’s survivable.

They made it pretty obvious that Sabine was stabbed on the side. So while shocking at first, then it was like.... ok... she lives. And their medical is better than ours. I mean they gave Luke a whole new mechanical hand. Give it a pass that she lives and others don't. Gotta be careful though the evil Padawan will not miss again.

I thought these first two episodes were magnificent! I think it is definitely missing Zeb, flashbacks with Anakin, and certain characters. I wish the world was expanded just a bit more because it feels like there’s too few characters. But, I loved the action sequences, and how visceral the world is. It has translated quite well from animation. I can’t wait for the rest of the show!

After Kenobi, it’s basically canon now that lightsaber gut pokes won’t kill you. I guess you have to have follow through (but as Maul shows us, even that’s no guarantee)

I suppose you’re right that a lightsaber strike might not be very fatal. However, I imagine Sabine was able to recover due to her being able to get immediate treatment, which han solo and the guy on the ship in the earlier scene were not given.

I can’t help to notice some plot-reversal here, with the Empire being the “little guy” and the Alliance the “huge organization”. From the start, a small party taking over a huge ship. In the shipyards there’s a group of Empire-rebels(?) …

Grace you are right about the lightsaber torso shots... a lightsaber should move through flesh like a knife in water so unless the attacker is TRYING to make a perfectly straight whole in somebody that lightsaber should pull in some direction causing a lot more damage than a tiny whole.

yeah, the fighting scenes are sloppy, I don't mind if they sacrifice actors face screen time and just use doubles and play with the angles etc. They should use the vader-kenobi fight as a reference of how a top saber fight should look like.

It was still stupid. If the suspicion was that they bad guys of any sort...is that how the New Republic handles bad guys? They bring them into the ship and the captain just walks right up to face them? It was the ultimate of arrogant hubris and had to be breaking some kinds of incident protocols.

Overall I liked this although I found Ahsoka very reserved. I think those who haven't seen Clone Wars / Rebels will find things confusing. Notice that the "apprentice" has a Jedi hair braid.

Balon Skroll scene could have been done differently opposed to trying to copycat Darth Vader's scene in rogue 1 . What I like is there it does show the difference in level of power between Vador and someone like a Balon Skroll .

Grace at 1:40 they didn’t copy Vader in Rogue One they copied the first opening sequence of Kenobi & Quigon Gin in Episode One. I think the title of the episode also alluded to that (evil) parallel

I really hope that we actually get to go to this other galaxy. They've got the Super Gigantic Hyperspace transport ring. I want to see them use the damn thing. Don't cheap out on us! I mean, this is the first time in any Star Wars tv show or movie that we're going to leave the galaxy and go to a different one. That should be a huge moment. It opens so many doors with all the books with Thrawn and the Grysk. I feel like it will be a huge turning point that there's no going back from.

I loved the first two, I’m a die hard rebels fan, it felt straight up rebels season 5 more so then an “Ahsoka” specific show, but I do hope she’s not pushed to the side most of the time.

Coming from a huge fan of rebels I loved see all my babies on screen. Can’t wait for zeb to come back. If I don’t get a full reunion of all of them on the ghost I may cry. That being said this is ahsokas show and I felt that she should’ve been highlighted more. I’m not sold on Sabine being her padawan. Hoping to learn more about that than what they gave us in these two episodes. I agree the fight scenes are a little slow and I expected a little more plot wise from 2 episodes. I’m trusting it’ll get better. There are some rebels episodes you need to review cuz kanans return is impossible (although I would not mind if they retconned that!!) there were a few other issues you mentioned that were explained in the show. But I’m so glad you’re a rebels fan now!! It’s the best!

Fighting is dancing Grace, I guess you never took up martial arts. You can use parts of your clothing to blind and choke an opponent. Fighting without skill is called brawling or you are just a brawler. Jedi and Mandalorians are highly skilled fighters that learn katas, forms, and foot work that is similar to dancing.

My top 3 droids are 1) Chopper, 2) R2-D2, 3) K-2SO. I do not know why you like K-2 so much as I thought he was so somber and depressing. Love Chopper as you usually know what he is thinking even though you cannot understand a word of Binary (I assume that is the language he speak as that is R2's language).

I’m still working my way through clone wars, so I haven’t seen rebels. I think the show did a good job keeping me up to date on what I needed to know, about where the characters are at this point in time.

The opening in that temple felt very Tomb Raider, which made me very happy. haha If they ever revive the IP, that's what Tomb Raider needs to be like. That was pretty cool. I guess you could also say it was very Indian Jones as well.

As someone who hasn’t seen rebels, the learning curve is a bit intense. Also for someone who’s seen every live action Star Wars project - to feel like even I am an outsider coming to this party - it is not playing to the general public at all. If it was more lively and engaging it wouldn’t matter as much.

Definitely interested to see how yhe general audience react to this. I think the fact that a lot of the reviews for the first two end up doing a catch up on Rebels, scares me. 😅😅😅 I can easy see someone getting so confused watching the series. It's kinda like hearing a inside joke, where you don't the punchline because there's so much build to the joke that was never said. 😅

Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati are not Sith, Baylan is walking the path between Jedi and Sith hence the orange light saber and so is his apprentice Shin. The idea of saving Kanan would be a bad idea because of he got pulled out then the fire would consume the whole rebels team as explained by Ahsoka in that "World between worlds" episode, plus it was intimated that it was an illusion created by Palpatine.

It's clear at the end of episode 2 that Ahsoka is now a Jedi Knight, given that she accepts Sabine as her Padawan.

I don't think it makes Star Wars more niche to explore variations with Jedi, Mandalorians or the Empire remnant. It's clear in Mando that they were trying to introduce more factions than the OT had, just TCW gave us Mandalorians and clones. That was why the sequels and Kenobi felt so stale, because they are stuck in the same paradigm as the OT that we've already seen. The problem for the mass audience is the indecision over deepfake, recast or original actors from the OT, since the audience are divided on what they want.

The thing is, after Rebels these characters have been well-realized compared to who they are in Episode 1 and this series should consider that and give them new conflicts for their growth and not retread what they went through before in Rebels.

Grace I'd think you of all people would know that the flaps/sleeve over shoes as boots is a staple in hollywood! LOL almost every superhero has that exact look if you look closely! It always bothered me but I guess acting in boots is hard
