Me personally, I thought the reunion between Ezra and Sabine didn't really have that much of an emotional impact as I thought it would. After not seeing in each other for years and how desperate Sabine was to find him, Ezra just shows up and says..."Oh hey, What's up?"

I feel like they are succumbing to the same issue that the sequel movies had - they're glossing over some very crucial events that would have/should have transpired during the time jump, and not addressing the "how we got here" aspects of things... How did Ezra escape the star destroyer once they arrived in the other galaxy? Why did Thrawn let him live after all this time? Just how damaged was the star destroyer and how did it sustain all that damage? How did Thrawn manage to convince the Nightsisters to help him? Are there only the 3 of them? Who repaired Thrawn's ship? What good does tying red cloth around storm trooper armor do, and so on...

They don't SHOW enough. A lot of the show still relies on exposition dumps. More flashbacks revealing Sabine and Ezra together would have built up the emotional impact of the reunion. A scene where Ezra escapes from Thrawn after the Purgill's hyper jumped would have built up his cachet as a hero and a big problem for Thrawn but none of that was done.
@Armyjay

The red strapping is a thing the Nightsisters use in magick rituals. Maul used them when he made the potion to bind Ezra’s and his own “spirits” together and on Dathomir the Nightsisters used the red straps for their Magick too. The Storm Troopers have probably been “reanimated” or are the “Army of the Undead”, both of which would’ve required Nightsister magick, hence the read strapping on them too.

This should have been ep3 or 4, so we could have gotten some interesting story. In this series. Can't help that I feel that I'm watching a exiting a bit thrilling story when Baylan and Shin are on the screan. When I see Sabine, Ahsoka and Hera it feels like a cartoon. This order is because it feels like it is Sabine in focus not Ahsoka. I also felt that the reunion felt a bit off, more like he'd been gone for a week. I hope something happens and that it's not "Heir to the Empire" with Filonis characters instead of Zahn's. But it could be that Shin is Filonis Mara-Jade.

The single biggest flaw of this series is the lack of any sort of emotion from any of the characters when it would be completely natural to do so. Everyone except Baylan is so stoic and wooden that I'm unable to feel much a connection to them. This is from someone who has watched both clone wars and rebels. These characters act nothing like like their animated counterparts and show none of their charm or personality.

I thought what was expected ended up being non-motivating. I mean after years of missing each other the Sabine and Ezra scene was downright lacking the emotion you would expect. I know that at first, when I saw Thrawn and his potbelly I was "not the Thrawn I knew", and then I thought for a moment and said to myself "What, about ten years have passed, and he is how old" and I was okay with it. My biggest of all thoughts was this: The Great Admiral Thrawn was trapped in this place for ten years, he couldn't fix his ship [ok argument is where does he get material] and most importantly he couldn't find Ezra [unbelieveable].

You underestimate the power of self-delusion. Lost of people still think The Force Awakens was fine and that the sequels only took a downturn under Johnson. The rot started with Abrams making Han a divorced deadbeat dad who regressed 30 years in character and never reunited with his wife and friends before he was stupidly killed. As bad as The Last Jedi was, it was never going to be good because TFA mucked everything up, but the latter is still praised because the key jangling worked.

This episode was okay at best. There were great moments and visuals but these don't make for an awesome episode. Never mind characters that act like how a child would write but the plot and situation is so contrived it completely wrecks immersion. Ezra hiding out amongst his Fraggle friends giving them Rebel medallions, but some how Elon Thrawn can't find him just half a day's ride away. Its ridiculous. If there is a plurality of fans who think this was awesome then you the fanbase can not complain about the volume low level fanfic that is shoveled in their general direction by the Disney "writers" because by the fans own definition, it can not get better than this.

Hera is the extension of Kennedy - she's the girl boss that does what she wants. Sabine is essentially all the bad things that any Star Wars character has ever done, rolled into one horrible package. She's the arrogance of the Jedi with the Mary Sue qualities of Luke all played out by a purple haired version of Jar Jar.
@adamlarson6821
@adamlarson6821 10 ай бұрын
I disagree. Sabine isn't a mary sue (at least from what I know that definition to mean), in that she doesn't just get all that stuff handed to her. Sure, she made it to Ezra (which yes, was her goal), but, she is going to have to face the consequences for what she's done. She basically let one of the most brilliant and evil men in the galaxy escape into hers, and she also undid Ezra's sacrifice. I think overall, I like what the show has done. unlike Rey, Sabine actually made pretty huge mistakes, and while, yes, she hasn't really seen the consequences yet, i think they will definitely show themselves in the last two episodes. She was blinded by her goals, and screwed up royally because of it. Also, i like how she isn't overpowered with the force(again, unlike Rey), even though she wants to be. it's clear that she's trying her hardest, but cant connect. I like this aspect, and personally hope that they will use that to show how you can be confident and happy in your own abilities, and not trying to chase after things that you're just not gifted in. anyway, personally think that she has been handled (maybe not perfectly) decently. If you disagree, of course, you are entitled to your opinion.

@@adamlarson6821 Sabine has had pretty much the most important things handed to her - like her entire schtick of existence. She's a Mandalorian who can't use the Force, yet has somehow ended up being the apprentice of a famous and powerful Jedi. And just in the series - she gets to cheat death in a way that can only be explained by doing outrageous mental gymnastics. If they wanted her badly injured by surviving, there is any number of ways they could have done it - but in a show that is 40% fan service, there is no way that they recreate QuiGonn's death scene for Sabine, but have her survive - without knowing exactly what they are doing to the suspension of disbelief.

Hey Thor. Is Ahsoka really needed for the Ahsoka show? The reality is Ahsoka did not really fit in Rebels either. She is a character that was interesting and significant during the period of the clone wars as the Padawan of Anakin, but should have faded into history with his fall to the dark side. Instead the Filoni verse has recast the Star Wars universe around Ahsoka. Nothing happens without her now. Lucas told a story about the Skywalker family, Filoni is telling a story about Ahsoka Tano. The entire show could be retold without her specific involvement. Just substitute any prequel era Jedi and the story holds (obviously except for the Anakin World between Worlds). Shoehorning an offscreen Sabine-Ahsoka relationship into the post rebels period does not create an emotional attachment. It is nice to see Baylon and Shin slowly divulge their history and relationship. It is just sad they are countered by the manufactured and synthetic Ahsoka - Sabine relationship. Still enjoying the show, but having hard time placing it in the greater Star Wars universe. Thanks for all your great content!

Hey Thor, I’m anticipating that Ezra and Thrawn have reasons for leaving each other alone. Thrawn’s too smart to leave Ezra there, and Ezra saw him as too much of a threat to just run off and hide for a decade. Maybe Thrawn is welching on the deal now that he’s got a ride home, but I think it’s got something to do with that power Baylan’s seeking. Like Thrawn knows Ezra can keep it (Abeloth??) at bay or something. I’m hoping we get some exposition next episode around that. I also think these series on Disney+ would fare better as anthology series from various points of the timeline. Like the “Tales of” books and comics were back in the day. And we’ve had Tales of the Jedi now, but we could also do Tales of the Dark Times (Andor, Kenobi), Tales of the New Republic (Mando, Boba, and Ahsoka), etc, instead of character focused names, which then force a single focus for what are usually ensemble stories.

I don't get why Ezra should be so upset with Sabine. The Rebellion won. Palpatine is dead. The Empire lost. So what if Thrawn comes back? He shouldn't be much of a threat anymore with (theoretically) such limited resources. Sabine isn't aware of the Shadow Council. Does Sabine know that the New Republic is so much of a joke? Sure, they didn't initially send help to her and Ahsoka, but once there is undeniable evidence of Thrawn returning, then Sabine should believe that the New Republic would (theoretically) be able to amass a huge fleet to take him out easily.

One detail I've not heard anyone talk about in discussions about ep. 6. Thrawn is super detail oriented, meticulous, no? Look how thread-bare and frayed his collar is. Yeah Peridia is a harsh world, resource poor, and yeah, it seems his people are all witch-zombies. And He's taking pains to present professionally, but, his uniform is getting shabby. How frayed is his mind after these ten years?

For me it kind of depends on where they're going. Thrawn I'm undecided on. If he's planning on using the nightsisters to get back, dispose of Shin and Baylon and never cared about Ezra other than a nuisance then this might work. Get rid of the lightsaber Force wielders, use the witches to get home and find a way to dispose of them later. I was always under the impression he was using imperial forces to protect his homeworld as much as wield personal power. I know him more from the books than from Rebels, though. There are so many ingredients of something great here, and they're being mixed by a mediocre cook. I liked this episode, but like all of them so far I feel like they could be SO much better.

I think introducing a new galaxy allows story tellers to tell new stories without having them connect to old one in the original galaxy. Plus the super geeks will have a blast mapping out 2 galaxies. The one thing I will say, and I’m gonna timestamp this in relation to the video is, I don’t think Ezra had the foresight that he was banishing thrawn to another galaxy and eliminating him as a risk to the extent that he did, when he called on the space whales. I think Ezra was getting him out of the immediate situation. He had no idea the extent to what he was doing much like what ahsoka said “I have no idea”. 3:57

Hey Thor, Baylon said he is after the Beginning. It has to be related to the Son or Abalyth (the mother) The Son makes more sense however as Moreye is a part of Ashoka herself. It would mean there is some hope to stop the Son through Ahsoka. Perhaps in the upcoming series. I would imagine that the Son would be coming back to the Star Wars galaxy to set up another series and the movie and set the First Order and New Republic truce. As there seems to be many worlds still liking the advantages and ideology of the Empire

I kinda like the idea cause I've always wondered who was telling the story of SW. Every movie starts with "in a galaxy far far away", I've always wondered where the humans came from, and always imagined that everything on SW had already happened, thats why it starts with "a long time ago, in a Galaxy far far away".

As an aside, I just wanted to mention how much I agree with your considerations regarding appropriate accolades for each episode. There's no shortage of sites on YT that think EVERYTHING that appears on screen in a Star Wars show, is immaculate perfection that has zero flaws and if you point any out, you are quite obviously a hater that tortures kittens. I click off of such sites quicker than I clicked on them. Pointing out flaws, as any adult will know, is the best way to ensure (should the points reach the creators) said flaws don't continuously reappear.

Personally I liked the little nods and winks. Like Hyuang suggesting that Star wars is a fairy tale in the other galaxy (psyop about aliens telling us their story?) Also they retconned hyperspace barrier around SW galaxy which was super interesting. But most I enjoyed Baylan talking about his past because it could very easily fit to fans of the empire or old Jedi. Also Baylan wanting to rebuild the order, maybe the first order? Perhaps what calls to Baylan is clone of Palpatine and we learn HOW Palpatine has returned.

I think no one would have complained about not having Ahsoka in episode 6. The difference with BOBF is that Sabine is a characters from the show which we can consider as another main character, and what the episode shows us is important for the rest of the series. While in BOBF Mando was not seen previously in that show, and the story shown don't have any use for BOBF...

As for the new galaxy vs just having Thrawn be in another area of the same galaxy, I think Filoni wanted Thrawn in a situation that made it more difficult for him to just find his way back. After all he has 10 years to do so and I suspect a lot of fans would not have accepted Thrawn struggling to navigate across their galaxy in that time. I also think they won't spend much time in that galaxy as I suspect they are intending to have the night sisters become a bigger element in the rise of Thrawn's new First Order I think Filoni is trying to fix up the writing of the ST a bit through this show, that is to try to give a better beginning to all that through Thrawn and not rely on Snoke or Palpatine and his clones. That said I do think it is very possible that one or more of these characters chooses to stay in the other galaxy as a means of an exit and grand end to them. I think if this wasn't the plan for Baylan all along perhaps it will be the explanation they give as to what happened to him in season 2.

I've been terribly excited to finally see the characters again, and it's caused me to overlook the many problems that are blatantly obvious. After hearing many opinions, I'd have to agree the show as a whole has been handled poorly when compared to what it could have been. I wish we would have gotten the 2nd rebels series instead. 22 episodes rounded to 30 mins a piece would have done the job better. We would have had a lot of time to explore the new galaxy if they didn't have an 8 episode limit. The characters also wouldn't have gone through these dramatic transitions that have caused massive controversy. I understand they were trying to market the characters to the large majority, but the problem is that the common knowledge of the characters past presented is vastly unknown to a large sum of people they're trying to attract. With this considered, they poorly introduced the characters and barely provided enough information to allow viewers to have any sense for the characters ambitions. They didn't give too much insight on the events of the years between rebels and ashoka either. I think the show, regardless, was going to be hard to pull off when looking at the full picture. The poor writing didn't help. I won't lie though, I've enjoyed the show to some degree, but it's been a failed attempt at something that had the potential to be incredible. We got two eps left, let's hope for the best

I kind of hope we don't get much about this galaxy. The new galaxy served it's purpose to plot by explaining where Thrawn and Ezra went, but now it should be left. Its far too hard to get to mingle well with the main galaxy, and so the main galaxy should remain the focus of world building. There's still so much more to know to integrate with the main story and history, it would be a shame to throw it all away

You should watch the last episode of rebels, the Chimaera, was hit a few times by purgil and one attached itself to the hull, hell Thrawn was tentacled by a purgil that smashed the bridge windows and I think the damage we see in the ship is were the purgil attached itself at the end of rebels. As for Thawn exploring this new galaxy ... no because how Hyperdrives work as it needs a programmed course in the Navicomputer that obviously they dont have as nobody explored this galaxy and mapped the hyperspace lanes, it would risking the ship in blind jumps like in the early days of the Republic since its about the only craft with a actual hyperdrive, TIEs lack then as even shuttles werent designed as scouts, simply out Thrawn was very lucky he found himself in Peridea.

Here’s an intriguing realization: there seems to be a correlation between popularity of character and accent. The more popular characters in Ahsoka all speak in non-American accents (Baylan, Shin, Thrawn, Huyang, etc) while the performers mostly deemed “underwhelming” speak in modern American accents (Sabine, Hera, Ahsoka). I have a theory that American audiences don’t like their characters in escapist sci-fi stories to sound like a kid working at the local mall…it takes away from the escapist element. Thoughts?

Now that we've found Ezra, i cant help but feel like the whole Ghost crew should have been here. Sabine is no more or less family than the others. Also, gotta rant about the wolf thing. Sabine is colossally stupid for shooing away her only means of transport. It abandoned her? Yeah, its an animal. They do that when spooked. It hasnt been shown to be a predator. Also, shes on the clock in unfamiliar territory, she needs speed more than anything. Finally, spending time on this on episode six of eight when there are SO MANY other things to cover seems wasteful. Could have spent way more time on Ezra's reunion.

A few points of interest; - Do we know at what point of the series Ray Stevenson passed away? Was it prior to the Ashoka film, after the end of S-1? During S-2 filming? I suspect whenever it was will provide a clue as to just how much his importance will continue to impact the storyline. The character of Baylan is profound and I miss Ray so much already. - If this new planet is the Pyrgll graveyard, are we to believe that all the Pyrgll accompanying Asohka, are doing a lemming run and going there to die? - I realize that so far Shin is still giving us "abandoned puppy" vibes but I do like her and hope her character becomes far more in either the film and/or S-2. Since we know Baylan's time with us is sadly fleeting, it would be a shame to lose her also, in what I suspect will be an upcoming battle between Ezra-Baylan and Sabine-Shin. - I've come to believe that Thrawn's Stormtroopers are in fact undead. Despite the fact they have limited resources, if alive, they still have access to soap and water and I cannot believe that Thrawn, being a military genius, would overlook the importance of his troops keeping their armour if not as mended as possible, at least clean! No Leader would allow living soldiers to reach that level of being so unkempt.

Hey Thor! I have a totally out of universe support for why a new galaxy. First let me say, I agree with you that there is SOO much Legends Canon that can be explored. And here is my argument. With the Fan Base so heavily divided between "Disney Canon" and Legends, the choice of using a new Galaxy has a big benefit. One that makes Filoni look even more like he cares. Going to a new galaxy allows him to tell his story without stepping on loved and cherish stories from the EU. What do you think? Possible theory? Let me know what you think in the comments (LMAO) 😅

There are definitely some parts I could nitpick about this episode but overall, I really enjoyed it. Aside from Thrawn looking a bit like a blue tinted Elon Musk with a paunch, it was fantastic to see his live action debut. Ezra's casting was excellent and the little bit we saw of hime seemed to fit with the character perfectly. The highlight for me continues to be Balan. He is such a deeply fascinating character who has so much potential that will now sadly, never be realized because of Ray's passing. Still, I'm looking forward to the last 2 episodes to see where all this takes us and I'm sure I will be annoyed about having to wait for season 2 after the inevitable cliffhanger conclusion.

I’m feeling mush more cautiously optimistic inside of optimistic after Thrawn revealed he didn’t know Ahsoka here’s a line from the book, "it worked pretty well for the droid fighters Ahsoka was up against at the time too" - Padme to Thrawn. So I’m very nervous that Thrawn won’t know Anakin. I hoped he doesn’t ask of say anything along the lines “who is Anakin” unless it’s directly to Ahsoka asking her what it was like to train under him. For Ezra if he does so easily forgive Sabine hopefully it’s cause he is fine with Thrawn returning after finding out about the great threat of the Grysk/Vong

I just reread that section. On the one hand this is how Thrawn learned about the Marg Sable maneuver, one of his Standard opening moves. So one might expect him to remember who came up with it. But then again the maneuver itself is relevant, not so much the Person. But more importantly Padme only says Ahsoka and not Ahsoka Tano, so until now for Thrawn the matching first name could just be a coincidence. Thrawn would certainly want to have that verified before jumping to conclusions. So we will have to wait and see. If we get a throwaway line from Thrawn about meeting General Skywalker or Ahsoka coming up with the Marg sable I will be very happy.

@@gildor8866 That is… actually a very good explanation and stuff. I’ve not seen anyone think of this other than the possibility of Thrawn wanting to fact check only for someone to come in and shut that thought down and no one being able to explain it 😅. Hopefully this is the case and this could be the first time I at least know of, of there being multiple people with the same name in a franchise and stuff. So that be cool that if it’s that he wants to make sure that Ahsoka Tano is the same Ahsoka that Anakin and Padme mentions
