I think the name change being held back was tied to specific people planning their exits with the company and not wanting to conflate to two ideas.

Interesting connection you made between AI and smartglasses. That could become huge! Even potentially replacing both smartphones and laptops. Maybe at first smartglasses connected via Bluetooth to a smartphone, because of the small battery size in the glasses.

Part of the backlash for the Ipad Ad is AI or placing creators. The IPad became the tech symbol even though Apple is behind on AI.

They probably want the multi-modal data to help train future models, since companies are now suing them for training on their data.

Microsoft creating their own internal AI department and creating their own model competing with OpenAI probably had something to do with the affinity for Apple, seen in the GPT-4o release.

Let's not forget about usage. As a premium user, I think you get about 4 to 5 times more usage limit and priority access to new features, whatever those may be.

OpenAI actually does care about the plus subscribers. That's why they get 5x the limits. The likely reason why they made these features free was they want to use the multi-modal data for training the new models.

I think partnering with apple is two fold, one it's in OpenAI's mission statement/purpose to bring those that are nearing the tech to be mentored (may or may not, apple has not presented anything of the form to prove competency at all in the area. just talking heads and fanboys propagandizing), and two, obviously for the science of it, OpenAI are needing more compute and the cash to proceed. It could only mean an injection of cash on apple's end (possibly out of desperation, the sweat is palpable after Google's event) in exchange for access and API preference as opposed to the public model and the general pool of requests (more likely down the road) for their own purposes - maybe even lending assistance for apples internal development.

@@startup-podcast for most. People are using mostly free tools. I personally never used paid AI. I have a list of different free AIs and if one does not satisfy me, I use the others.
