Artificial intelligence deepfakes are highly convincing pieces of false information built through generative AI with the intention to mislead others through the spread of disinformation. "Citizens need accurate information to make decisions," said Janet Coats, Managing Director of the Consortium on Trust in Media and Technology at UF.
Coats believes people should be aware of the role that emerging technologies like generative AI can play when influencing voters during election season. "We should be most concerned about the role of generative AI because it can create video, text, images of people saying things they didn't say and doing things that they didn't do," Coats said.
