U.S. Army Engineers demonstrate their capabilities utilizing the Improved Ribbon Bridge (IRB).
The Improved Ribbon Bridge (IRB) enables Soldiers to cross rivers, lakes, or other bodies of water in the absence of a means of crossing or in the event of an unreliable or damaged permanent bridge. The IRB can be configured as either a continuous full-closure bridge or assembled and used for rafting operations.
AiirSource Military covers events and missions from the United States Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

I have to agree with chicken wing, it's not a bridge but a ferry. I was an army engineer trained at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. What we used to build were constructions which connected two sides of a gap. That is what a bridge is designed to do. We made them of wood, rope, pontoons, and girders. One side gave access to one side of a gap and the other end gave access to the other side of the gap. I respect every man or woman who has served our country by serving in the various arms of the military. But Military intelligence has again brought into question their ability to recognize the difference between a horse and a horses ass.

@MAOfights
@MAOfights 7 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely nothing like the Bailey Bridge. Float Bridging has been around longer than the idea of modular steel framed bridges. Heck, the Bailey Bridge has been improved on by the Mabry-Johnson and others. Still can't beat the Bailey for it's variety though: I know many which have been permanently emplaced by municipalities.

It is the first one i saw being built. My dad was a welder and he was repairing one for the Canadian Legion for something or other. It's a good one. Having said that, Archimedes had a bridge that did the same kind of thing. Been around for a very long time which figures, it solves a very important difficulty

to all the idiots who made stupid comments. Yes it is a Ferry. You build the ferry. you cross armored support first to secure the far shore. Then you build a full enclosure over a river to cross uninterrupted traffic. And yes it can and has been built under fire. Twice in US military history first an older, more hand constructed version over the Rine in WW2. The second time I'd just as well not discuss. Essayons!

Nice, Reminds me of my time at dutch 105th corp of engineers in 1988 Building this floating bridge in 45 minutes (!) with a lenght of 135 meters (About 443 ft) across a big river during poor circumstances in winter It’s original a Russian invention and probably updated by us corp engineers. However , our towboats look to have bigger engines. These boats on the video are smaller and we had 3 parts on our boats with less soldiers to connect the parts. I also noticed some dangerous handling of taking a cable away. This guy could lose his fingers or hand in stormy circumstances Helmets are ‘not done ‘ in case you will fall in the water Connecting by ropes when there is ice on the surface of the bridge will be slippery and can be dangerous. Just let the captain of the boat handle this by steering the parts nicely to the other parts Still nice to remember And we also used the parts in the Netherlands when a small part of a river broke though a dam and we helped farmers and other civilians in 1989

Did my military service at such a unit 1981 in Sweden. Many exercises at night and opened the bridge for just one to two hours. When opened, it was go go go with almost no lights, very scary when driving heavy vehicles across the river. At the same time false bridges were set up. An enemy aeroplane flying at high speed couldn´t see the difference. The russians had at the time their version made of steel while ours were made of aluminium. As an military activity it is very impressive to have experienced. Those were the days my friend..

Impressive, yet manual work 😁 we have the technology to do that with the touch of the button, by the time soldiers need to asemble this the war has finished

But this is better because construction of a concrete/metal bride takes years to complete and at the time of war if the concrete/metal bridges are to be destroyed then this is the only way. It is better to construct a bridge manually which might take a few days rather than years (where war would surely end).

Well, on a computer its touch of a button. In real life we bridged rivers in hours so the armor and infantry could roll on. Often under fire. Instead of months to years.

It's a bridge section, we use boats to connect the sections together and make a bridge but you're right they can be used to ferry vehicles too
