that's only half of it, we saw him live twice. When he would sing certain notes a certain way, an audience would fall silent. Go to the video of him singing "A House Is Not A Home" with Janet Jackson and Dionne Warwick sitting in the audience. Warwick can't believe what he does to her song and cries at the end.

Smoky is clearly enjoying Luther especially at 5:52. It's a priceless expression on Smoky's face. People hate comparisons but I don't think I'll ever hear a voice on par w/his. There's just another level of excellence in technique and emotional content in his singing. I listen to all the greats but Luther's voice sends me to another plane - a musical nirvana that I don't get from even the very best of the other greats. Special dude!

@William Jackson. Luther wasn't only loved in the black community, as a hispanic woman we loved him very much too. He was loved by all. I cry because he suffered tremendously after his stroke, but God knew it was time for him to go home. How blessed we were to have him. But he never belonged to us he belonged to Jesus. Eternal Rest Grant unto Mr. Vandross O Lord and let thy Perpetual Light Shine Upon him. Amen🙏❤️

I am literally crying at just how wonderful a singer Luther Vandross was. No one could sing like that man. All of his live performances were superb and I just feel so sad that he's not here with us anymore. He took Smokey's words and made them his own and it was a touching tribute.

Luther simply didn't sing a song.......HE STOMPED ON IT.......the man branded the song with a hot-iron, like a cattle rancher does livestock. Luther was one of the best vocalsist/performers that ever lived, whose unique vocal style still remains unparalleled. Smokey's one of the all-time great songwriters of popular music. so, it was a real treat to see Luther singing the songs of one of his heroes. and, the masterful rendition he did of Smokey's signature song "Ooh, Baby, Baby" was magnificent... bringing to it a grace and style equal to, if not better than the original. man, i truly miss that brother. God bless you, Luther!!!
@brye5512 жыл бұрын
Just look at Smokey's face at 5:53 on this video and his look says it all, the look of a very proud "father" watching one of his babies bloom. Luther did so much justice to this song that it was as good to listen to as the original, I'm gonna miss hearing new recordings from this brother, but I have all the Luther classics so he'll sing on these days.....sing on brother, sing on

It's funny, when Chaka Khan was questioned about the difference in performers today(interview was circa 2015) she responded, TALENT. Sadly she's right because I remember a time when guys would stand on street corner and harmonize and sing and they were great. I think Luther was a singer who did that.
