This is amazing. I am a beginner in Kenkyukai aikido. We did this technique the other week. I feel it will be some time before I understand it. A common refrain heard when learning this technique is “I don’t know why that worked”. Thanks again for posting this very informative video.

So enlightening. He explains, when uke grabs you, you can do aiki-waza, but when you grab them it is jujitsu.
@bambooseragardenista832911 ай бұрын
I have to respectfully disagree with his assessment. You can "do" aiki waza whether your opponent grabs you or you grab him. The difference between aiki no jutsu (and aikijujutsu) and "regular" jujutsu, is that jujutsu depends on mechanical-structural alignment of the joints, plus leverage. Aiki no jutsu directs force to the opponent's center of mass, regardless of his alignment, and aikijujutsu exploits both, but can still work even if alignment isn't perfect, or leverage is not applied.

Seems the techniques are effective with uke continuing to maintain his grip. Without that grip shouldn't that relieve the pressure?

It's bullshido man! That doesn't works in a real fight! Hahaha Mike Tyson show it once, if you want something effective, at least, learn boxing or MMA, if you wanna be killed in a second, go for this shit! Hahaha 🤣😈
@christophermckenzie716710 ай бұрын
Depends on the softness of the attack and the speed of the response. It seizes the nervous system and slows down the attack. I'm very soft and can remove grip easily but most can't. I've been practicing it for 6 years
When was aiki discovered? Is it 19th or 20th century? Or was it part of Takedas daitoryu? Was it an accident realized from combat then studied and pursued? Or was it stumbled upon just from civil practice of daitoryu?

Nobody knows the answer to these questions for sure, but Ellis Amdur has investigated them pretty extensively.
the guy held on for 24 seconds, when all he needed to do is let go and pop him in the face. That is what angers me about this kind of Daito ryu, and Aikido and I train both Aikido and Jujitsu.... just not that way. Then at 6:13 this guy even go's further into let's pretend I can't move while I sit here stiff as a board with a face of pain. I didn't time that one, I was way to bored and frankly angry to do so. I get there is more to training martial arts than just combat but what does this serve, honestly, I want an answer. Why?
@idimiditavicorpzone595410 ай бұрын
That stiffness and face of pain is logically incoprehensible, but it is real and he cannot move at that final stage until allowed by the teacher.

I guess the only real way I can believe this to be this effective is to fight the guy. I can't stand it when ignorant people with undeserved colored belts say stuff like "Bullshido ha ha ha", but as a 35 years martial arts student, I can't believe someone would have that kind of reaction simply because the guy is moving his wrists a little. Anatomy and joints, even energy, can offer incredible advantage, I know that as a fact, but from that to have this show going on... mmmm. If you can do it on me, I'll believe you and call you Master.

Technic only work because the expert control own Prana (KI) Mechanical part get DENIED, body get hypnotized to obey. Since PRANA takes over the FIGHT. NORMALLY NEED TO USE MORE MECHANICAL LEVERAGE, THE WAY TORSION use long arm , to move with big Force short arm. Less SKILLED AIKIDO teachers show TORSION MODEL. by moving own position slightly, move opponent body big, than it hurts extreme MUCH.

Not buying it. I’ve trained in Japanese Jujitsu and Tomiki Ryu for decades. Unless you’re an overly respected Japanese Sensei with very polite uke, these esoteric techniques just don’t seem to work.
