Indoor Range Fun: I was whisked away at a moments notice to go have some fun shooting various restricted firearms. This was my time ever shooting a handgun, and it was a ton of fun even though my performance was below expectations. I also had the joy of shooting a Barret Model 99 which was chambered in .50 BMG, which is about as big as they get when it comes to individual carry firearms. Larger than this and you are really into the anti-tank and artillery realm. I must say, even though its expensive to shoot, I would highly recommend everyone try this at least once to get a feel for the raw power of such a large cartridge.

Pistols is where you experience the effects of trigger control and what and where your trigger finger does/is. Hope you try more pistol shooting, it is an entire different ballgame.

+Logan Cressler I'll agree with that. It was a ton a fun and eye opening to see how much recoil some of the seemingly small pistols actually have. That .45 had way more punch than I expected. I would actually have to say I preffered the 9mm from the short experience I had. Have to see if I can line up another go at the indoor range some time.

Not too bad for your first time with a pistol. I'd recommend looking at some of the pro shooters suck as Jerry Miculek, he has a lot of good advice.

Honestly I would never have thought that you could not shoot a pistol or never could, but hell, you have to start some where. I have been shooting pistols my whole life but have never had a large area to try long range rifle. I think the farthest I have shot is around 150yd.

Jameson Sullivan Yeah that first target surprised me as well, I don't know what happened there...mabey too much adrenaline from the "wow this is so cool" factor? The Glock17 target was more of what I was expecting to see. I would have a couple handguns myself, except for the fact that Canada has some pretty lame laws when it comes to ownership. This has really put a damper on my desire to own anything in the restricted class. Long range precision shooting is what I like the best anyways.

I follow your rifle techniques and apply it to pistols... Breathing. Grip. Squeezing the trigger. Only difference is pistols have 5lb+ trigger weights compared to your sub 2lb rifle trigger. What I did was measure my rifle trigger which is averaging 2lb then worked my M&P 9 which is now coming in at avg 2.5lb and then followed your rifle techniques on my pistol and it really worked (it's not my CCW btw) just for range fun. Check out Chris Costa videos and Cory from Range Time TS they have good tips. Also, you can work on your flinching at 2:38 into the video. Have a great day and great videos!

Your 155 vs 175 video is highly anticipated! Especially in my 20 inch barrel 1 10 twist 308 curious what your opinion is.

MaineWoods Quick answer, my research suggests that the 155 is the most optimal round for .308WIN. Still working on the practice portion.

hey Ryan....do you think you will move to a different caliber once you have got all you can get out of your current rifle?...I handload aswell and have found that im right on the verge of utmost precision with my 223...sorta sucks cos i enjoy the fine tuning of the loads and the reward of tight groups...all i can really do now is try different projectiles and start all over again..or just move to a 30 cal. .

Ryan P Oh yeah. I have had my next caliber picked out now for a while now. 6mmBR, and I already have the barrel. But that project has been on hold for quite a while. Life/kids have a way of taking any money you save up and finding other ways to use it.

Sir, I have some advice that may help your pistol shooing. Feel free to not want to take my advice being as that I am only a teenager I totally understand, but also let me add that I have also been shooting firearms since I was eight. That probably has nothing o do with my validity, but I digress. First, let me start by saying good job for your first time, and great vid. Now let me say that you want to layer your thumbs, and not cross them. Your left thumb should be under your right. Secondly, you need to give yourself more time for follow up shots. You are a smart man and this is apparent by your videos where you have to compensate, and by your knowledge of firearms.

+Austin West Problem with being a newb to this side of the shooting sports, I am documenting all my errors and short comings. Thanks for the tips. I don't plan to pursue pistol shooting anytime soon. This was a one-off event which was fun, but I still prefer the long range rifle game.

bigpoppa578 My mistake, it misses one attribute - selective fire. Poor choice of words. The DD18 is a restricted rifle in Canada and I guess the joy of shooting something that has strings attached in this country made me feel a little, rebellious. Annotation to be added. Thanks for the correction.

Ryan, why did no one teach you how to hold a handgun? Your support hand is messed up. When the pistol recoils without resistance it will come straight back. When you add your right hand into the mix, the resistance from the right rill make it recoil back and to the left. You have to balance this by filling in the space on the left with your left hand. If your left hand doesn't fill in the space, clamp tight enough and provide enough resistance, your gun will recoil back and left, and your shots will shoot left. PS: Your original intro music is STILL way better than this. Moving targets and a concentration on mil ranging would make great future videos.

thelister4910 1, Yes I prefer the harder version of the intro rif as well, but I wanted to change it for the new series. 2, I have been watching a bunch of pistol related videos since that day, and yes I see now that I am doing a ton of things wrong. But, first try, lots of fun. I guess I have to do a follow up video at some point where I actually try to get some proper form working for me. Thanks for the tips.
