Thank you for the comments How would you have screwed something up?

I bought a Renault recently and the horn pleased if it works or not and finally died the other day. I've been having a look at whats causing it. Im at the point wher I'm thinking the steering wheel cant be that hard to "just have a look" LOL.... Anyway your video tells me I ain't qualified to go anywhere near it. I am almost certain the problem is a broken connection in the wheel. I guess its a trip to the garage for me.😕

@@JohnB-2021 no. The horn still only works when it pleases. I believe it is a bad solder joint on the live pin inside the rotator switch.

@@JohnB-2021 I'm having a toyota Yaris 2010 model which i resently sent for a replacement of the indicator system, Afterwards the hooter lasted not more than 48hrs. Now the airbag sign is on as well. thanks again for this information.

@@MbhoniMzee If it worked once and now it doesn’t, the unit wasn’t centred before fitting it. It will be broken.

No I don't think the washer fluid is linked.

I have no idea why the receiver would stop working correctly assuming you now have 2 keys with a low range problem. Have a look for one on ebay.

Hi, Thank you for the subscription. If the horn now works, you're moving in the right direction. The units do not need to be programmed and if the system is clear of faults, the air bag light should go out. Is the comms unit a brand new un-used unit?

Hi, That sounds a serious fault. I wouldn't have thought it was this unit, maybe the fuse box since that is controlled by signals too. I would google the fault, sorry I can't help.

Hi, Other than the air bag wiring, do you have a black wire connecting to the metal work under the airbag? If you do, the horn is earth'd from the steering wheel.

Yes I do, its a standard spade connector onto a plate on the rear of the airbag. So, am I right in presuming you're inferring my issue could be the clockspring? If I run a wire from -ve battery terminal to the earth wire on the horn and it works, that confirms bad earth, right? Thanks for your video and your help thus far, its much appreciated.

It sounds like, either the steering wheel wasn't set in the middle, or the wiring wasn't set in the middle, that would break the wiring in a few weeks.

Thank you for your comments. I don't believe there is a method of testing the airbag ecu other than trying it on a vehicle. I've not heard of airbag modules just failing and bringing on a light. I think you need someone with a scan tool to read the fault. Did you have about 8 ohms to each airbag? Have you checked the seat belt tensioners too?

I have a fault on the right side seatbelt tensioner, and the scan tool said "driver squib 1st circuit open circuit present" I even replaced the whole steering wheel control assembly including the clockspring but it still remains. Maybe the module has stored some false data? I measured around 8 ohms on the driver side haven't checked the passenger side just yet. One thing I noticed, is that I get around 1 ohms on the bottom of the plugs where you mentioned the little shorting lever for the pins. I plugged the connector in and measured from the back and it gave me around 1 ohms on each side. I also checked if there's a continuity between the plug that directly goes into the airbag and the end of the brown and blue plug. It was weird to see that if I check the corresponding leads with a continuity tester, at the brown-green side I get a connection signal on all four leads (so if I test one of the leads going into the brown socket, and one of the leads on the green connector that goes into the airbag directly from the clock-spring I get a signal. Then I swap to the other lead on the brown plug and I still get a reading. This doesn't happen on the blue side. Also when I checked the connectors under the seats, on both sides I get a continous signal on the airbag modules and seat belt tensioners, but on the line that goes into the SRS sensor module I only get nothing on the connectors which should be connected to the belt tensioners.

So you have a problem with the wiring under the seats, common.

Almost, turns out it was one of the leads heading back from the seat to the SRS unit. Cheap fix. Anyways thanks for the video! :)

Sounds like you might have broke the column wiring

I have all the same symptoms except my airbag light is not on@@JohnB-2021. I just put the car in the shop. I hope they don't overcharge me.

+timothy thomas Hi Tim, I'm a little lost, is there some sort of holder around your column for packs of cigarettes? If you were touching the column and the light came on, I'd suspect a loose / broken wire. The air bag system often runs to the seat belts too, they have seat belt tensioners. It's difficult, but you need to do a continuity test on the wiring (with the ignition off) Air bags are generally 2 to 8 ohms. I bet the weather in Florida is nice, it's cold here today (UK) Oh, as for the horn, if you press your air bag (like mine) it could just be loose and need adjusting. My car MOT was yesterday, yet again the second hand switch stopped the horn working. I found a new one on ebay for £65, fitted a few weeks ago. Yesterday my car passed an MOT test :) Thanks

Hi, I imagine it's one and the same problem. Unless Dodge have mastered a way of connecting the horn and airbag without a coil of wire, it will be a coil of wire broken.

+BearRyan No I wouldn't be 100% certain but, it's the first thing I would test if I had both faults.

John B Thanks John, I've been quoted £198 all in to have a new one installed. What else could cause the airbag light to stay on? It's a 5 door so I don't think there's any cables to check under the seats. Thanks for replying.

+BearRyan Hi, you need to check the continuity of the air bag wiring through the switch assembly. You need to remove the air bag (2 sets of wires if it has a dual air bag) remove the bridging links at the rear and test the wiring, it's the only way to be sure.

John B Thanks John. Really appreciate the help. I was afraid that this could turn into a massive expensive job. I only bought the car. I'm no expert but when I read up on my faults (which I thought were minor) I got scared! The seller has obviously withheld some important information from me :(

@@JohnB-2021 great ....I didn't want to spend out on a replacement unit until I was certain.. Is it possible to get a pattern part?...I'd be reluctant to get such a part from a scrapyard as there is no guarantee it won't happen again six months down the line ...

@@gemmastone285 I got one from a car breakers, the horn stopped in one week. eBay is your best place I think. You can pretty much guarantee it's the switch assembly causing the problem.

Hi John. Thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately my Acura clockspring is completely different from the Puegot. The Acura has 3 tabs to lift but there's a turn indicator cylinder in the middle of the clockspring that seems to keep the two parts together. Can't get that cylinder out to separate the top from the bottom.

In my experience, a repair to the wiring lasts for 5 minutes, hence throwing it away and getting a new one.

@@JohnB-2021 for the center ring cover is not easy to figure how to remove the cover, on this specific model you are showing. In case someone need that info you need to press each one of the 4 latches from the inside. If you are going to do something do it well.

J D if someone can’t figure that out for themselves, they shouldn’t be touching it. That said, there is nothing that can be repaired so no point in taking it apart. I just show what goes wrong.

Do you mean cruise control or lane departure warning? I don't know of any auto pilot. If it's cruise control you want, buy the cruise switch, plug it in and get your car programmed. Lane departure warning is a complete control unit, wiring loom and sensors under the front of the car.

@@JohnB-2021 The connection to the pre tensioners umder the seats simply neaded flushing with cleaner and the fault disappeared.
