I have a new unit that cools great when its cooler out but when it gets up I to the 90s 100s sun beating down it can nearly keep the house at 80 and runs constantly. The line is beat can cold though condenser fan is blowing out tons of heat. Unit also condensate out drain line. I have noticed at times high humidity on the house though. It's a 3 ton icp unit only a year old. Everyone keeps saying the unit is fine any suggestions. I do know the blower is set to high on purpose because if you set the speed any lower you can hardly feel anything out the vents. The old unit was a massive 5ton unit on a 1,000 sqft house it was replaced due to major issues rust and corrosion but when it did work it short cycled frequently. I'm not the one that had a 5 ton installed last owner did. Our unit cooled fine last year not it seems to not keep up.

Not enough information. How many tons is this system, was everything replaced, the indoor coil and air handler, the outside unit? How many square feet is the house, what state is this located in. What's the outdoor temp and humidity, that's the indoor temp and humidity, is the duct work properly sized for the tonnage, is it insulated, is this in a attic, crawl, out outdoor packaged unit. I assume your the homeowner and not a service tech?

@@HVACRSurvival I said all this in my comment it's a 1,000 sqft house 3 ton icp heatpump system with electric backup /aux heating. Everything is new except the duct work which is why the blower speed is set to high it still has the 5 ton duct system the vents hardly blow if it is set any lower. Unit heats perfectly with out needing the back up heat.

Temperature drop across filter/dryer is only 1°F. At the pressures you were operating at 1°F is 5-6 psig drop, 2° - 3° would be huge pressure drop. Another good video, keep it up.

I am fairly new to the comercial side of HVAC. Only came across twice on ECM motors. I remember a trane with about 14 wires coming out of the thing. On my case all the wires were going to the circuit board. I would have liked to see a quick run on the wiring and name on the manufacturer. Just saying, that's the kind of thing it helps. When I am on the field then I remember I have seen something specific on a video. But all and all thanks for the videos, your time and effort is appreciated!!!

On my personal system at my house I run the fan an extra 2min after the condenser shuts off. VERY High Humidity here near the coast; Air Handler is in a closet in the garage and will sweat most days - letting the fan run for a couple of extra minutes got rid of the droplets of condensation on the outside of the air handler....makes use of the last bit of heat removal from the cold refrigerant in the coil too.

Those strips are sometimes tricky cuz you look at it one day the next its broke. If you look at the tip of the bar of the one that was welded, it looks to be burned so it was the smell he was smelling. Lucky the ac still cooled on not so hot days. When I read a month or so ago that lowering the fan speed helped dehumidification, I sure did switch to low fan speed! Med high and high seem the same and med low and low seem the same. I also have downflow with in slab ducts. I used to always run the fan speed on high for AC. Carrier 3 ton condenser. ADP 3 ton coil with TXV. I believe my furnace is 4 ton.

Sometimes it's more noticeable when you have a ECM motor vs a PSC motor. Check your temperature drop across your evaporator to see if it's inline. I like 15-20* drop. (That all can change depending on your humidity) levels)

I wonder if a residual current breaker would have prevented that heater strip from burning up so bad or even going unnoticed for longer than a day or so after it broke, they will trip when either hot or neutral goes to earth.
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival 4 жыл бұрын
The amp draw was 20-21 amps per element, so it would not and did not trip the breaker. Usually the electric furnace will have 60amp or 30amp breakers feeding it. It made the smell once and did not do it again. It likely made the smell during the failure and then stopped. We came out the same day or the next day after it made the smell.

About the bonus footage : I don't quite get how come it didn't trip the RCD ? Or maybe they don't have one ?
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival 4 жыл бұрын
Because the amperage was 20 amps to ground. The electrical path to ground or nutrual was making a 120v circuit instead of a 230v circuit. It would be the same as wiring it for half the voltage. If the element would have broken and shorted let's say a couple inches from the powered side, it might have tripped because the resistance would have been much lower and would have resulted in higher amperage.
@sterlingarcher46
@sterlingarcher46 4 жыл бұрын
@@HVACRSurvival yeah but over here we have RCDs that trip if you have leakage to the ground overs 30mA for residential equipments , that's why I don't get how you can have 20A leakage to ground without tripping the RCD . I'm scratching my head right now 😓

The reason why I ask i have had the same issues that you were seeing burned grounded heating elements which also welded close the relay contacts thereby keeping it energized causing erratic pressures and a bad split

The air handler is capable of 3 tons on high, most Carrier branded products are raited to run as low as 325cfm per ton. The evaporator air flow had little no effect on the TXV, and same with the subcooling. The adjustments still did not have the effect on temperature drop I was looking for. I would have rather seen 16-19 delta t. As I mentioned I made sure the condenser was clean. What would you have done differently?
