In the third installment of the SSUPD Meshlicious series, I'll test and experiment with a low profile air cooler, the Noctua L12 Ghost S1. It probably goes without saying that using a glass panel over such a cooler is a pretty bad setup, but can it be made to work well? I'll give a few recommendations and show a few modifications on how we can massage the airflow to change the air cooling performance. You could also try some of these ideas with the two mesh panel version, and seal off the mobo side panel around the perimeter of the air cooler footprint.

One thing I’ll add is that a reason to choose the L12 Ghost or Big Shuriken 3 over the L12S is if you have tall RAM. The L12S absolutely needs low profile RAM in the fan under heatsink orientation (which is the only one that works with the SSUPD). The L12 Ghost gives 48mm of height, and the BS3 has a configuration that has zero interference with RAM. If you’ve been following along the other Meshlicious videos you’ll notice I switched RAM kits to a lower one here with the air cooled build.

@@che-weihsieh975 the Ripjaws are a bit lower profile then G.Skills Trident Z line, but not considered low profile RAM and too tall for low profile coolers like the Noctua L12s. This is why I went with the Big Shuriken 3 on my smallest build, as it can be installed in an orientation with zero RAM limitations.

The nuctua cooler is installed incorrectly in this video, top down coolers like this and commonly found on gpus have specific orientations they are designed to be in. Due to the way heat pipes work which I won't get into on here, noctua provides documentation on their website as to the orientation this cooler should be installed, probably throwing away 5-10c. Same can be said for gpus in most cases designed with the 90 degree rotation, ssupd did well to orient the gpu with the IO facing downwards, some cases like the Xtia xproto or phantecs shift which face the other way, you would see VERY different GPU temps.

Hello Machines & More, thank you for your great videos! I am going to get this case, but there's some questions. I'm using MSI RTX2060 ventus OC (226mm). I wish I can set the GPU horizontal instead of vertical, so i can set SSD under the GPU. Q1: Can I still set two slim fan (KF1215FD18-P, 17mm) in the front to make air flow? Q2: Is it great to use SCSK-2000 with i5-12400? or Noctua NF-A9x14? Q3: Is it OK to choose glass version with air cooling above? Glass looks better. Thank you! (and sorry for my poor English)

Nice case. Got one. Using temp glass and a normal fan set up. Have an aio but can't be bothered installing it. Seems a pain in the ass. Given case size and tube size. Wanted to fit a ek Flt 120 but it's doubtful I can fit it in comfortable without doing any DIY changes. Could fit in an ek quantum RGB 120 Res and pump combo. Over all it's a budget case, frame feels like one too. But in all honesty, it's more than good enough. Cheaper the better imo. Saves you $ and it's lighter. Glass feels cheap but it's cheap to buy. The mesh, although my first experience with it. Seems to be of better quality. When iv finished, it will look great. For an ITX case. It's honestly so easy to build in. It's not until you get to the cooling side is it a little more difficult. Going air only. You won't have any issues. Air only, I'd be shocked at any build times over 30 mins. Half of that cables, tidying and plugging in. Overall for £105 it's impressive.

let me say something you are really living upto your slogan "For those who. love to tinker." That was by far the most ingenious idea for sff cooling.🙌. But don't you think adding those cute little 40 & 60mm noctua fans on the mesh that you removed from near the io panel won't that actually drop alot of cpu temp with same cooler? if noctua sent you the cooler they will definitely send you those fans to test anyways there aren't many videos on their sff use.

Do you think it is possible to mount two radiators AND do a dual loop with two smaller kinetic pumps in the nr 200p
@MachinesMore
@MachinesMore 3 жыл бұрын
There might be enough space for just mounting the pumps horizontally over the PSU but I would hate to be the one trying to fit the tubing and fittings into that space. Perhaps a better solution would be to go for a pump/block combo for the CPU and the separate pump/res for the GPU loop.

Question. Did you test with the L12 oriented as shown in the video, with the heat pipe bends vertical toward the top of the case? Noctua recommends against that orientation because it could lead to reduced performance.

For the vanilla way, I tested both ways that would fit, horizontal and vertical, not a significant difference. For the sealed off version it’s very important to orient the heatfins horizontal.

Any truth to the reddit reports that a 3090 can melt the riser cable in this case?
@MachinesMore
@MachinesMore 3 жыл бұрын
I’m sure it’s possible, if it’s touching or right up against the card, and that’s also why I had some concerns about the back of the motherboard. The power running through the higher powered Ampere cards is quite insane and the backplate or flow through side of the cards can get very, very hot, and absolutely plastic or rubber could get soft enough to be malleable. The best way would be to space out the card, or at least make sure it’s not touching. I’m going to try and mock up a backplate/shield for the motherboard and riser.

For stock testing (no sealing) I tested in both horizontal and vertical orientations and there was not a significant difference. Unfortunately the heatpipes down for the horizontal heatfins does not work with the PCIe sot, but having them oriented the right way is very important for the modded config, air needs to flow through the fins and not just over it.
@Benzin0
@Benzin0 3 жыл бұрын
@@MachinesMore ok I just tried installing it with the heatpipes down and actually it's not the PCIe slot that interferes (at least on my mobo) but the top of the case. There is about 5-10mm clearance missing so the cooler is hitting the frame :( I'll install it the same way you did, no other choice if you want to have the fins horizontally.
@MachinesMore
@MachinesMore 3 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right- it is the height out the top that was the issue, my bad for forgetting. I tried the config and yeah, for horizontal fins there’s only that way unfortunately. If you’re going to set it up with the mesh on the CPU cooler side, it really doesn’t matter that much and I’d say the vertical fins fit more reasonably.
@Benzin0
@Benzin0 3 жыл бұрын
@@MachinesMore hey no worries, in the end I did install it with the fins oriented vertically as it made more sense to me... quick question, since I'm using the front fans as exhaust - negative pressure, I flipped the NH-L12S fan so that it acts as intake too (I have mesh panels on both sides). Do you think it's the best config or should I leave it the way it came with the cooler (fan pushing air out of the mesh)?
