Love all your comparisons. When I tea dye I lay a table cloth on the kitchen table. Dip the page, then lay a plastic stencil on the wet paper, then spritz it with a spray bottle of tea or instant coffee and it leave it to dry. The stencils leave marks and its pretty cool. I have also put food coloring in a bottle with a small amount of water and spritzed color over the stencil. Fun to see what you get.

still watched your tea dyed video and learned something. if you make a travelers note book that you first make your paper to size and then put it in the bath. I learned something again and the water warm that you then the color is more intense I did not know. thank you for this detailed explanation. I always let my paper air dry.there is no why for me.but what a beautiful stove you have Donna.
@JunkJournalideas
@JunkJournalideas 3 жыл бұрын
hey Marthy, you can make your paper to size first, sometimes this makes the paper wavy on the edges and sometimes it lays flat, it depends on if you have a big flat table to lay it out on to air dry. I tea dye my papers in full sheets now and then cut them to size. and yes my stove is amazing!! i have to agree!! ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna

Thanks for the oven drying info. I just made a batch of avocado dyed paper. Usually I would lay papers out to dry, but decided to try oven drying which you made sound so easy, & it is. It requires a it more attention [thank goodness for timers on kitchen stoves], but I do like the results. I plan to leave the stacks to thoroughly dry overnight then press the papers under piles of books for a few days to flatten.
@JunkJournalideas
@JunkJournalideas 3 ай бұрын
Great idea James! I only use the oven method if i need papers done in a hurry and it's winter time, bc as you say it does require more attention for sure. the oven does make them wavey and they do need a little weight to flatten them, sounds like you're all over it, happy creating cheers Donna ☆🦋

I'm sorry about the loss of your mom. I really love your thorough tutorials. I add a little bit of glycerin to my dye bath. Thank you for the tutorial on tea dying paper. I don’t know if you have the distress ink pads but if you do you could use the expresso color or something similar and sponge down the cut edge with it. I thought ironing the paper would flatten but not totally. So I thought maybe a little steam would really flatten it. It’s so crinkly does it chip off or tear more easily now? Also have you tried maybe 65 pd cardstock? So intriguing lol. Thanks again for sharing
@JunkJournalideas
@JunkJournalideas 3 жыл бұрын
thanks for your tips Dottie, I have done the edges with distress ink pads yes it does a lovely job and i only use it for 1 page I don't do this method for several pages though :-) I also don't like ironing my papers so i prefer the air dry method they turn out nice and flat for me now. it doesn't chip or tear any different to un stained paper, however it does tear easy when it's wet :-) i use 85gsm always, it's been lovely comparing techniques ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna

Hi Larry, depends on what you mean by ink? printer ink or pen ink? if you don't wan't ink to bleed or be seen through the other side use a higher grade paper designed for double sided printing. Hey Bownesz I hardly use the oven i mostly air dry but depending on your oven, use a pretty low setting i use between 100-150, a bit warmer if you want really brown edges. cheers Donna

Donna...are you able to help.. I dried my papers in oven, they caught fire and now it seems the oven/heating element TRIPS up since.... I know this isnt a fix-oven channel but im genuinely not able to afford repairs and know I messed up...im reaching out for anyone's help..im desperate and really quite miserable about my grave mistake.

hello Henrietta I'm so sorry to hear that your oven is tripping out, I don't have any electrical knowledge what so ever, BUT I do suggest that you ring an electrician explain what has happened, this won't cost you anything to discuss your safety. from there he/she will advise you what to do, please be careful...hugs Donna

do you have to use black tea? - i know i have chamomile tea at home
@JunkJournalideas
@JunkJournalideas 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Emma, no you don't have to use black tea you get different colours when you change tea, chamomile may give you a more yellow paper where as black tea will give off a more brown/vintage colour, definitely worth making a cuppa tea to try out (❁´◡`❁) 🦋 hugs Donna

The oven dry and use of minc machine cost too much electricity power... Also my family is not lucky enough to have a conventional oven. We only have an oven toaster which is quite small. Air dry would be the best option for me (i dont have a choice anyway)

i set it on low, i say and show my oven of what it is in the video, I would have to go back and watch it to tell you the exact temp, I air dry on good days and only use the oven if it's raining when i need in a hurry, thanks for tuning in :-) cheers Donna

Does it leave any reason to not cook in the oven after drying paper in it?
@JunkJournalideas
@JunkJournalideas 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sherri, no problems at all, the paper is harmless and the coffee water is all so harmless. I only ever use my oven to dry paper if it's raining or i'm in a rush to get papers that i need right now. other wise i use the air dry method 95% of the time :-) (❁´◡`❁) 🦋 hugs Donna

I would have to go back and watch it again myself to tell you that Morning Piano? I hardly use the oven now days unless it's winter or raining. what I use is a low temperature just warm (i'm no good with the numbers) and until it's dry or very nearly dry hugs Donna

@JunkJournalideas

yes you can Emma, as long as it is straight and not to wavy, sometimes your printer head will hit the wavy paper a bit and spit out inks where you don't want it, watch for that as well, super flat air dried papers are best for putting through your printer, cheers Donna
