That's weird, I thought you had to completely destroy the remaining "hole" ruin too, but you reduced the last building to a hole and that was the end of the game.

Yeah I've heard that before. I don't remember if it is different in skirmish vs. challenge/mission mode, or it is different between the vanilla Generals and Zero Hour. I do remember that in vanilla Generals I have to destroy all buildings, even defensive ones.
