As a kid, before I even became a teenager, this was how I learned that the call sign Air Force One is not the specific plane but whatever plane the president is on.

@@dudestir127 I actually read up on this after watching the movie last year. Apparently the call sign for the president's vehicle is always "[army branch] 1", depending on which branch the vehicle belongs to. Marine 1 is Marine 1 because it belongs to the Marines, etc.

I saw this in the theater when I was 11 years old, the first R rated film I had seen in one. I'll never forget the crowd audibly gasping as Harrison Ford got taken by that cable at the last possible moment, and that sweeping score rising up to augment it. Moments like that are what the movies are all about.

@@ryans413 The whole point is to rescue the President, who's the top priority in rescue missions, but he chose to let others off as much as possible before him. So, death is imminent if things go wrong. It's what they live with, unfortunately.

So I guess this is where I say I wasn’t born at a time where I could enjoy this movie in theater, and grew up in the age with everyone around me hating and criticizing the United States on it’s history. And their absolutely right this country’s done some pretty messed up stuff and has a lot to answer for. And yet... I really love this movie, and I absolutely love the score, and everything about it. It just gets that bit if patriotism out of me, to the point where I’m absolutely gushing it and loving being an American. And even after everything I’ve said, I still don’t regret being an American, even when I’m not watching this movie.

Probably, and Liberty 2-4 is an MC-130H Combat Talon used by the USAF 8th SOS irl. Im assuming it could be retired in the later years, since they're now being replaced with more newer MC-130J Commando IIs

You know what? XANDER BERKELEY doesn't get enough credit. He was wonderful in T2, and just about every other film he ever did. And although he was simply "the sleeper turncoat agent" in this film, absolutely everything about his demeanor, actions, and the filming *OF* those actions was fantastic. It's kind of a bummer he never truly had a strong, super popular lead role. I'm willing to bet he could have done well.

He decided that playing the hero was more important than making sure that a brutal dictator isn't released and allowed to put the world into chaos. It was a gamble that not only could have gone wrong in many ways but also almost led to the release of said dictator. I could definitely see that as a line of attack from his political opponent along with breaking his vow not to negotiate with terrorists. But since the intervention was successful, the President would definitely benefit from a "rally 'round the flag effect" that would help him get re-elected. In real life, the Defense Secretary likely would have gotten is own way with "never negotiate with terrorist" and "sacrificing 50 people to save millions".

Of all the movies with the plot that involve the leader of the most powerful nation in the world, this is the best one. Why? because the protagonist is the president himself, and he was also the one who fought and defeated the terrorists without the help of his men. Movies that involve the US president like Olympus has Fallen series, and White House Down are nothing compared to this masterpiece.
