If flew N310RR with Chester, a flight instructor out of Mach 5, back in 2020 at the end of July so I could prepare myself for flying our newly bought 310N (N799VD) back from Southern California. I also needed to do the extra flying in the same make/model for insurance reasons. I ended up flying N310RR for two hours doing the full gamut of multi engine maneuvers. When we got to the full critical engine shut down I made the same comment of "hey this flys pretty good on one engine in the heat of the summer and could even climb slowly when at 5000FT." I am glad things turned out well and maybe even get warranty rebuild on the engine. I am also glad the engine decided to wait for the owner to fly it to blow up 😉 As always, great video and story. Thanks for taking us along.

Great video and story of the 310 engine failure. I would sure as heck prefer to have two engines.

I have handled a few connecting rods and have been awed by the strength and rigidity they seem to exude. And they normally last for thousands of miles or hours without issue. But I am always totally awed when I see a failed connecting rod broken and twisted like a piece of toffee at a summer carnival.

Arm chair quarterback here! Perhaps after 2 engines in a short period, its time to stop climbing out on blue line! Please at least look into why you should never, ever do this. Old dogs can learn new tricks! Love the videos, thanks for all that you do!

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully the warranty work will also come with a failure analysis. Do you know if the warranty repair also includes the cowling repair?

It is amazing to me that the twin engine plane is technically safer, but bring a host of "problems" during an engine failure that must be dealt with properly to take advantage of the good engine. It seems to me in the last couple of years there have been a bunch of fatalities with twin Cesnas losing an engine. Should have been survivable, obviously, if piloted correctly. Good on ya Jerry for the practice, practice, practice you obviously do to stay proficient in an emergency. What scares me the most on a single engine is the lack of positive seal on the cowl. On a similar failure the lack of visibility with the oil on teh windscreen is really scary to me. Stay safe, Jerry. I'd fly Air Wagner anytime. Thanks for taking us along!

Glad everything went smoothy and safely. I'd say your friend was lucky to have you along in that situation. Some say many Good and Bad things come in sets of 3. So you've had 3 E.O.'s (not good). Time for 3 Good /Amazing Things. 😀👍...

Nice angle of approach. Maybe a bit steep, but I prefer to ALWAYS have enough altitude to more than maintain speeds and make field...note: at any point of approach pull power and see wat happens 2, in emergency try to choose & reach an area to land with sufficient altitude to circle first

Hey Jerry, just curious why you don't put the props full forward on short final?
@Jerry.Wagner
@Jerry.Wagner Жыл бұрын
The Geared GTSIO-520 engines on a Cessna 421 have a Prop shaft gear that drives the prop from the engine, that is a sensitive part and if you want your engines to get to TBO you need to not continuously put added pressure on this part, you for sure don't want the props driving the engine by pulling back power and putting the props forward, I do use it occasionally when necessary to slow down or for a short field landing but in general you need to take care of those expensive engines

G,day Air Wagner from Sydney Australia. There's something not normal, that's two Continental IO-550 For the connecting rod to deform, the piston must have seized and the crankshaft has pushed it through the engine case. Any CHT data from that flight, anything added to the oil, how many hours since last oil change? Maybe throw some salt over your right shoulder.👯

Good to see Nancy back in Air Wagner. Jerry, statistically you are probably gong to be engine failure free but if another comes your way, I'm sure you'll handle it just fine. 🧑‍✈👍

Most people would feather the prop, not the engine. If that’s a 310R, I believe that’s an IO-520-M or -MB.

Hi Jerry! How about those Chiefs? Finally got some good refs. Yes, I was clued to the tv. You know Jerry, KC has the best ribs in the country, if you like ribs, I’ll send em your way. I had a engine go out when I was doing my instrument training, luckily we were about 3 miles and gliding distance from a airport. Hope you get your bird back soon, it’s crazy right now.
