However, do be warned that CCT doesn't always do frontline combat, if that's what you're in for. The TACP is essentially a Forward Air Controller, emphasis on the Forward. CCTs do direct and assist in engagements, but their jobs typically consist of securing and running airfields, which there aren't very many to secure, in places like Iraq and the Stan

@@Ash12428 GWOT's over, most CCT's in "today's world" are focused on their core mission set (global access) in the face of near peer competitors. TACP's are seeing an increasing shift to take over the precision strike domain (as was intended with their AFSC) and more presence outside of the 17th STS into other AFSOC squadrons, hence the increased funding and water requirements. This isn't to detract from controllers, JTAC is a certification (whereas for TACP it's their sole specialty) and does not takeaway from their usefulness in a battle space. These comparisons are always annoying given the JTAC portion is actually a pretty minimal overlap between the two career fields. Majority of current CCT's aren't currently holding JTAC certifications, if your sole focus is dropping bombs on bad guys you go TACP. If you want to manage dirt strips and control aircraft in austere environments, go CCT. Two outstanding career fields, pick the one that calls to you the most with its mission set and go from there.

@TaketheK I N G D O M you didn’t give any indication as to your age, or how long ago you were in the Marines, but if you are serious, you may be able to join the Air Force as a prior service member. The Air National Guard has TACP units (it’s easier to go into the Guard as a prior service member than it is the Regular Air Force). If you make it through the TACP pre-screening, and the TACP school, as well as the SERE training, and become a fully qualified TACP and JTAC, you can apply for Special Tactics (that’s what the AF was calling our version of Special Ops when I retired in 2016). Thank you for your service with the Marines, and I wish you the best of luck if you do pursue the Air Force.

I agree with you most are outdated as well. I get the whole silent professional attitude it's one of the reasons I want to be one but it's a double edged sword because it doesn't attract people because they don't know anything about the career field.

TACPs= big army SOF TACPs= 75th Rangers/STS CCTs= STS/ODA/OGA/NSW TACPs don't deploy with the Marine Corps, that's what Marine ANGLICOs are for.

@@justelynnnjoelle thanks bro, I didn't really even know that the AF had, Spc Ops teams, until I met 2 CCTs,and a PJ at Ft Benning. And when I heard about the pipeline they go threw, I was shocked, but I didn't hear about TACP untill like 7/8 years ago.

I am a TACP, not much swimming in involved mostly ditch and dawns where they throw you a pool full kit and you have to ditch your ruck, vest and recover your rubber weapon. You can watch tacp school house movies to see what the training will be like.

For the rucking you will have a 110 pound ruck for most of the time. It can go from 1 mile (up or down hill) to 20 miles. For tacp there is not much swimming involved, You will have 2-4 days of water training, and that's about it. They do not drown you like in navy seal training. If you think you are an ok swimmer you will be fine. To put it simply they make you work out for about 6-8 hours with no stopping including but not limited to burgees, Push ups, Chin ups, Pull ups, Sit ups, Ammo can raises (moving a 40 ammo can above your head). You will do that 6 days a week. The pipe line takes in total 1.5 years. But you should not worry is much about the pt is you do sleep and food. I cant tell you how little sleep they give because it depends on the instructor. After they weed out the week the real thing comes into play. before you ever think about joining learn how a map works. I mean it! During a mission there is typically 1-2 TACP's supporting the Rangers. They're not exactly in 'high demand.' More of a specialist unit if anything.

Primarily the mission sets and CCT is AFSOC(spec ops) their job is air field seizure, Air Traffic Control, Landing zones/HLZ and air drops. TACP is ACC (not Spec ops). I'm a TACP with 10 years in now. My job is Close Air Support(CAS) I call in air strikes in close proximity to friendly forces. I have only worked conventional deployments we are stationed with the Army. I'd recommend going CCT personally.

@@rzr2ffe325 they are making it pipelined now, effectively closing SOF to the conventional side to tryout. I think this will encourage guys to get out who were on the fence. Guys are getting out of TACP at a high rate. On top of that the careerfield is making it harder to keep people with the new BAFT(Battlefield Airmen Fitness Test).

@@TheJMan1K It's a qualification course. So yes, more advanced skills. As of December of last year, the USAF pushed to have the JTAC course integrated into the pipeline rather than having TACPs attend later.

Basically a CCT can be JTAC qualified and so can TACPs. It's a skill called Joint Terminal Attack Controller. It's not a job name, it's a skill name. Becoming a CCT is exponentially more difficult than becoming a TACP; which is why the pipeline is a lot longer. Water is the ultimate equalizer, you have to be combat dive qualified to becoming a CCT. That is not the case for TACP. Do your research and really know that is what you want before you apply. If you join because you think it'll make you look cool, or get you x number of likes on Facebook or instagram, you'll wash out of the training and become a statistic.

@@triplehusky9125 also have to remember that CCTs go by their title as "Combat Controllers". Their biggest role is infiltration of heavily contested airfields and turning it over to our side. DA is not their primary role, however, they do see combat quite often.
