Woohoo, picked this up a couple weeks ago, had a free addition of a set of photoetch flaps, so going to enjoy this right now.

Its a great kit to build!

Glad to see that the kit goes together really well because I bought one online several weeks ago. I find the Coastal Command camo rather attractive on this aircraft. I’ll start on it after I get all the paint colours I need. 👍🏻🙂

Hi Ronald, good to know that you’ve got yourself a Whitley and I hope yours is going as well as mine is I agree the coastal command camo is brilliant. I wound up using a mixture of Tamia and Revel paint on mine.

@@petesplasticplayground7791 Thank you, and for the info on the paints. The kit is still over the water from Japan but should arrive soon. ☺️

Hi Pete. Thanks for the update. Nice to see the speeded up footage of you building, gives you an idea of how well this kit goes together. Looking really good mate! 👌 Great video, look forward to the next one. Hope you're doing ok. Happy modelling Bobby

Cheers Bobby, again I have my son to thank for putting the video together. Hopefully you get a reasonable feel for how good the build is!

@@petesplasticplayground7791 yes mate, I like it. I love watching other people build almost as much as doing it myself! Take care Pete. 👍

nice build so far. Had the same trouble with a set of AK paints they kept clogging up the airbrush even when thinned. I have built the 1/72 Airfix RAF Whitely also a lovely kit. Its such a weird looking aircraft with that distinctive nose dip when flying. Look forward to finished model.

I’m fascinated by the subject, there are a few videos featuring Whitleys on KZfaq, Shame we can’t hear the engines though!

Great progress with the kit. I have got to the point where I my H&S airbrush is only used for lacquer paints and have a couple of cheap airbrushes (one for water based acrylics and another for clear coats). The water based acrylics don't seem to affect the cheap airbrush seals and it avoids any cross contamination between paint types. Even deep cleaning an airbrush doesn't seem to stop the clogging.

I sometimes wonder if I spend more time painting or cleaning / faffing around with the airbrush!

Ive had probs with AK. Thicker,grainier was surprised from such a good company. May be a batch issue but ive never had that problem with Vallejo or Ammo Mig. My go toos every time now. Makes you wonder what the 3rd gen is all about. I use a 0.35 needle,correct thinner but didnt like the feel. Humbrol avoid. The old enamels were good after much stirring but their dropper acrylics are pants. Give Vallejo a go and the range is immense. You wont be disappointed. People will say they have no probs but you did. Ive used 3 airbrushes,home made thinners,tamiya and Vallejos own brand. Zero probs. Humbrols are gloop. Ammo migs range are win/win too in my experience.

Yes, I may well buy some Vallejo and give those a try. I’ll also give the AK another go, could be me!

Hi Liam, yes , the Tamiya paint did go on very nicely- it’s the dark slate grey, which looks green!

AK paint and their leveling thinner has always worked beautifully for me and many other modelers. Maybe you had a contaminated airbrush (alcohol-based cleaner) or you aren't using a water trap on the compressed air line. Try cleaning the airbrush with pure acetone and let all the parts dry before reassembling.
@petesplasticplayground779127 күн бұрын
Yes, all good advice, thanks, I have been thinking that I should try it again.

I always liked the Stirling despite it's poor performance due I believe to the Air Ministry decision to limit the wingspan to 100 feet so it would fit into existing hangars. These new Airfix kits are light years from the ones I built as a child.

Looks great Pete👍. I suggest having a look at Vallejo WW2 set paints. They go down really well using a 40-60% ratio.Also paint really well using a brush.

Hello. Which type of AK thinner did you use? AK 3Gen should work fine with the dedicated thinner - i.e. AK 3rd Gen acrylic thinner
@petesplasticplayground779127 күн бұрын
Yes, I had the right thinner, To be fair I am going to try again with it, not least because the colours are spot on!
