I have 2 of these, one from the original 1970s release complete with the motor, and cost me £5, if I remember correctly, and one from the 1990s. Both were moulded in green and black. 2 sprues for the engine and interior were plated in aluminium along with the chrome. My dad built the first, I still have both that may come out for a rebuild sometime.

Got thiis for Xmas when I was 11/12 about 1974.I think I did a reasonable job of it although I know I was lousy at painting in those days.It was certainly a step up from Golden Hind.

I bild this one about 7 years ago and there where no fit issues. The only thing Airfix must do is upgrade the kit with some photo etch and ignition cables and stuf. That would make it superb!

Yes it was and is a very good kit. I built this almost 50 years ago! OMG!!! Anyway it looks really good assembled and spray painted nicely. A really worth while build and would look great in a display case. It is highly detailed too. I would recommend this one for anybody interested in classic cars.

The number of parts and detail is pretty amazing for a kit that's 50 years old. The only kit I can think of that might have had a comperable number of parts from that time period would have been Tamiya's 1/25th scale Tiger with working suspension and full interior (well "full" for the 1970s). Although, to be honest, I rarely built cars back then so I can't really say for certain.

For its age not bad. Just wish they would be a little more vintage with the pricing.

An amazing build indeed. In building mine I can't find in the instructions how to stop the rear wheels coming off if model moved. They are just sitting there.😊

This is a magnificent kit, both from a model engineering standpoint as well as a finished model. I made it many years ago, and it sits in pride of place in my collection, outranking my Spitfires and tanks!

Here's a thought: The time between NOW and Airfix first releasing that kit is the same as the time between Airfix's kit & BENTLEY MAKING THE ORIGINAL CAR...! I got the kit one Xmas when it first came out. Spent ages making it & still have it! The re-issue has been cheapened q. a bit... All the parts on the engine, dash & floor sprue were originally a matt aluminium finish & there were a couple of colours to the other plastic parts. The original kit also included a LOT of the parts needed to motorise it! As said elsewhere, some photoetch for the re-issue would be nice! (Esp. some proper mesh for the headlight covers, the grill & that weird transparent canopy thing. I used some coarse net curtain material & made frames outa plasticard!!). Nice Video!

Nostalgia may not be what it used to be, and neither are old Airfix kits. I remember this coming out and wishing I had a massive pocket money rise and the skill to build it.More flash than Gordon. Is this something to do with the putty plastic Airfix now use? Don't know how they can charge this much for a regurgitated kit that's simply not up to modern standards. Come on Airfix, let's have some new, different kits in big scales that aren't more Spitfires.

I am sat in my home office as I type building this actual kit. I know this video is a year old now, but it only just came up on my feed, so probably no one will see or read this but here goes anyway. I am certainly old enough to have bought this kit when it was first released in the early 70's but I don't remember it. I would never have been able to afford it anyways, I grew up in a very poor Liverpool household. Even if I had built it then I would have made a botch job of it anyway, modelling to me then was one tube of glue equaled one model, no paints (couldn't afford them) and the decals if I didn't ruin them. I got back into modelling a couple of years ago and am thankfully now, slightly more proficient. I saw this kit about when I got back into the hobby and have secretly lusted after it for a while. A few months ago I bought the kit from a model dealer friend of mine, so I got a discount but I still paid over $100 Canadian dollars for it. I am a diehard Airfix fan, I've always loved Airfix kits. OK, that's out of the way. IT IS A DOG OF A KIT!!! Some of the molds must have had some sort of contamination issues, or the plastic itself was contaminated in parts. There is flashing everywhere. and I do mean everywhere, I cant stress that enough. Every single part/component has had to be deburred, literally! I've never seen such huge and obvious mould seams, some joints are off by almost half a millimeter. The chrome is just awful. The whole chrome sprue is full of flashing, every part will require clean up which will obviously remove the chrome. That said I want to remove the chrome, its hideous and looks like it belongs on a childs toy from the sixties. Oh yeah the chrome sprue has quite a healthy warp in it too. Speaking of warped one of the rear leaf spring assembly attachment points was warped by about 45 degrees. So if your idea of a great modelling session is to spend hours, yes hours, cleaning up parts in order to glue it to another cleaned up part and have it resemble something like it should in real life, then this is definitely the kit for you. If you think reshaping warped parts is easy, think again. I looked up how to re-shape warped parts and everyone said dip them in very hot water. Yeah that doesn't work with Airfix plastic, I will give them that, they use super strong plastic in their kits. I ended up having to use candle flame, it certainly allows you to manipulate the plastic but you do lose any crisp detail. I also looked up removing chrome from sprues. Dip them in household bleach everyone said, easy peasy right? Er no, not Airfix chrome anyhow. I tried everything, paint remover bleach, draino, brake cleaner, concrete path cleaner. Nothing touches it! in the end, so far, I've resorted to giving the parts a quick rub with fine sandpaper, paint priming them and the regular chrome spray paint on top. So far its worked OK. I hope it works well on the remainder of the build. All that said, when you do clean up the parts, paint and assemble them, it truly does build up into a cracking model (so far). I don't like to blow my own trumpet but having gleaned a certain amount of skill and ability over the past few years, its allowed me to make something of a silk purse from a sows ear. I knew it was a 'classic' kit when I bought it so I certainly wasn't expecting the kind of build quality we've all become used to with the likes of Tamiya, but I certainly wasn't expecting it to be as bad as I've found it to be. I will get it built though. And I will show it off proudly in my display cabinets. It does concern me a little for my next project. I bought both the new and old 'classic' 1/24 spitfires from Airfix. My intention is to build them side by side in a kind of Airfix new and old comparison test/review. I am a little worried about building the 'classic' Spit! Watch this space.

thanks for reading and replying to my comment. Yeah the new spit looks awesome but I'm still somewhat worried about building the old Spit. I will happily send you some pics of the build when I get around to it. Incidentally I can send you some pics of the Bentley progress so far if you're interested.@@MOS6510Models

Just found out that Lego have made a Bentley just like this one but shorter. Has tyres that look like tractor's. Might be fun to build as was the landrover defender model they have ?🎉

Union flags, Mos. If they ain't on a boat they ain't a jack! Pedantry over - I think it's a bit pricey for a vintage kit, no matter how iconic or impressive. I have heard they are a lot of work and those instructions don't look as clear as modern ones! I wish your friend luck!
