Like William Phillips below, I am commenting well after the posting of the video. Let me add my kudos on an excellent job. I am just about to begin my own build of an Airfix Nakijima B5N2 and let me say that I found your video not just inspirational, but also useful with some great tips and ideas. I am also taking to heart William's comments as well and will be keeping an eye towards those as I complete my own build. Bravo on a great job and for sharing on KZfaq...subscribing to you channel...thanks again

Magnificent work on the torpedo dropping Kate. The build and paintwork on the Kate is wonderful. Love the seascape base...looks completely realistic. Bill

I realize I'm a few months behind the curve here, but gonna post anyway. Beautiful, just beautiful. I really love the build and the diorama is spectacular! I want one!Now if I may give a couple points of constructive advice. The torpedo looks great the way you chipped it, and I really like the looks of it. However, ordnance like that (torpedoes, rockets, bombs, etc.) don't usually have such chipping as they are rarely around long enough to weather much (other than some paint fading if left in the outdoors at a depot), Also, most handling crews are particularly careful when working around the 'business end of such weapons (the green paint indicates the explosive filled portion of the torpedo). The flaps, ailerons, elevators, and rudder of this plane are fabric covered and don't chip to aluminum. Actually, the paint adheres well to the doped fabric and wouldn't really chip at all. What does happen, however, is the paint usually fades faster than the painted metal surfaces (or in some cases slower, depending on the paint used). I would recommend masking off those fabric sections and using a lightened shade of the base color. This also gives the effect and advantage of some tonal variation to the paint scheme, especially useful when the camouflage scheme has large areas of the same color (not really the case here, but this is not the only model and scheme out there). For the metal finish of this plane, you could do the same and lighten or use a different shade of silver/aluminum for the fabric, which would also add to the effect of your other weathering (post shading and accent painting in this case) for this mostly monochromatic scheme. Please, I am not criticizing your work. I really like the effects you have accomplished and we should all make allowance for 'artistic license'. I am just trying to pass on some knowledge and give you ideas and knowledge. The minute we stop learning is the time to start planning for our funeral.Hope this has been helpful, WCP III

Like you, I am commenting well after the original post. It caught my interest as I am about to begin working on my own Kate and I was interested to see another modeler's approach to the kit. I am grateful for your comments, as I was not aware of the fact that flaps, ailerons, etc, were fabric covered and I was assuming that they would be metal, like the rest of the aircraft. I will be taking your advice when it comes to weathering and deciding on a "faded" colour. I was aware of your comment regarding weathering of ordnance and I don't normally do much weathering on these items...I have some experience of handling such things from my career in the Canadian military...we didn't handle our main rounds often and we were certainly careful about bumping them around. In larger scales, I think the simple application of washes to highlight details is all that is really necessary. I often look to Plasmo's channel for ideas on this as he is certainly a master modeler

@@stevemartin4088 he most certainly IS a master. Thanks for the comment on reply, as it only reinforces my opinion that we really should (and a lot of us do) be helping each other out in this hobby. Have fun with your Kate - and all your models, and I am glad I could be of help. Oh, and keep watching his videos, they are great!

I paused the video when I saw 'chipping' on the torpedo. I wanted to see if anyone else thought this was odd. I was glad to see your comment. I was also surprised to see your comment about the control surfaces being fabric-covered. I did not know that. Using a lighter colour sounds like a great idea. At 60 years of age, I am returning to my teenage passion of model making. Your advice is very helpful. I will now watch the rest of the video. Thanks again.

Really nice, and the water looks great. I would like to point out that flaps on an airplane are only used at take off and landing, and only go down. Also, ailerons move one up and the other down. Just for you to know. Don't take me wrong please. Best regards keep doing videos.

All kits are good, to be honest that "bad and good kit" mentality is really misleading and is not healthy to our hobby :) Manufacturers already committed to stay in this very niche industry, so they already trying their best, spoiled modelers will find something they don't like....

Very very VERY good diorama and model. I love it, it is quite creative and beautiful. Only piece criticism is that the rudder should not be chipped as it is made of fabric, as well as ailerons and elevator. Otherwise great build, keep it up!

Great job my friend , I love Japanese aircraft, and you have made this look so authentic! I'm in UK and when ever I look for Japanese planes all I ever find is the zero! He but I will keep looking. You have made this plane look amazing just one tiny criticism, I don't think you should have weathered the torpedo as the plane would never have the torpedo attached long enough to get that weathered, and when the ordenance was attached to the plane it had just come from a crate probably packed in straw so would look brand new ! Just a small point for realism. Which I think you are trying to achieve, with great success, I might add.
@sandtable80913 жыл бұрын
Really nice job. I don't think the torpedo needed weathering as you get a new one for each mission. Plenty of good tips. Thanks

You might be right, there is lots of inaccuracies in this build, I used some reference photos and torpedo tip always looked a bit chipped. Anyway most of the time I just do what looks good to me:)

I believe its out for more than 3 years now. I always read commends, and appreciate any tip, but to be honest I never overcomplicate or "dig deep" into my models, I just sit down and do something simple like this in one go, just following intuition- having fun, I might as well do pink colored tank and that does't really bother me while being complete off the realistic cammo :)
