A little silicone oil on the burst discs and they'll hold air 100% for months and maybe longer. No more "psshhhh" failures either. I've had the D2 for a while and shot it lots in 357 457 and shotty barrels. Only had 2 "psshhh" failures *ever*. It does work once you get the hang of it. If that happens it means you lost air pressure before firing. But as I said it's something you can reliably prevent from happening for longer than you would think.

Good point. I wonder if there are wee nitro piston nitrogen rams, as opposed to PCP. No idea how they'd be cocked, but nitro pistons tend to retain 100% pressure for several months at least.

Give it 20 years and they’ll be just as good as a normal firearm, I absolutely love the air in the cartridge concept , I can see these becoming a new air pistol standard after they refine it for a few years, you could literally make all manner of super awesome guns like this, a double barrel shotgun would be pretty cool, I would love to see a full size, all metal revolver setup to use these cartridges, has a ways to go but it’s on the right track

Mine lasted 2 months if that, the handle needs to be redesign for quality & comfort in the hand. Weakest point (hindge) will break, takes all the recoil from 5000psi cartridge with a 68gr slug. Once the hindge cracks, the firing pin can not strike the burst disk properly, a gap forms between the burst disk & firing pin, makes the ppphhhsssss sound. UPDATE - reached out to airgun tactical, informed them of the handle damages, sent few photos showing the areas that broke. They shipped out a new handle, no charge to me. Surprisingly excellent customer service 👏

It's like a really big air powered Derringer. Makes my Bond Arms look tiny. I kinda figured it was going to have air charged cartridges. There was a company importing and selling... I think it was a PCP replica of an old Springfield Trapdoor. It had cartridges you would fill with compressed air and add a projectile to do, then load them in one at a time. Looked really cool, but I think the company importing them went under. Don't know if they're made anymore. There are compressors that run on 12VDC, and can be hooked up to your car battery. You were probably shooting low because the hard trigger will cause you to pull the gun down as you fire. I can't say for sure, but it did look kind of like your barrel did dip a little before you shot each time.

that cost doesn't include the compressor/pump needed to fill the cartridges. $912 plus change and shipping and handling. I like the cartridge idea. A lever action or bolt action might make an interesting combo. A 22 short is still a better option, IMO. @jerrysmith7166

@@CovertGEGN1Any cartridge gun (even a 22) for self defense is probably better than this gun but it seems designed specifically for those place a firearm isn't allowed or for those that can't legally obtain a firearm. The CCI 22LR Quiet rounds are very nice for backyard pest control. Out of a rifle they are more quiet than my Umarex Gauntlet was before I put on the aftermarket moderator. Pumps and compressors are very expensive and today I think getting into a good PCP airgun is much more of a hobby than anything else as a quiet 22 is nearly as good for noise control.

@frankbrowning328 agreed. I've been looking at PCP guns for years now, and they are improving fast. I still can't convince myself that they have any value other than an expensive toy that could possibly be used for pest control. I want to like them. My logic says no, my fun side says yes!

Its such a great concept and i cant help but think that at some point its gonna take off and its issues will be worked out. PLEASE be careful when carrying these. Ive never heard of any accidents, but theres a lot of pressure being held by those discs...God forbid something bursts when its close to your chest and other "body" areas. I really dont wanna see anything happen to you. I hope i dont sound like im telling you what to do, I just dont wanna see you get hurt. Hope your holidays were good my friend! They don't fire randomly, although I understand your concern. I had the same concern until using this for almost a couple years now. It's more reliable than you think once you learn to lube the burst discs. They don't go off for no reason either, and if there was a failure it would hiss air out the back rather than firing a projectile.

I have considered the pre-charged cartridge concept before, but his is the first practical one I've seen. I know this is a first generation of this tech, but I see it being embraced by airgun designers in the future. I can see more efficient revolvers and autoloaders in various calibers coming. If they get too good, I can see PCP getting regulated by the ATF at some point. Watch...

There was a company that imported a number of oddball PCP guns from who knows where... they went out of business years ago. One product they carried was a PCP Springfield Trapdoor Rifle, and it used precharged cartridges. It came with a number of cartridges, which fit into a charging rack. You attach your compressor to it, and it'll fill 3 or 4 cartridges at one time. Then you just add a .357 cal slug and load it into the rifle, just like it was an old 1873 Springfield Trapdoor.

they are in Canada... were surprised you guys dont call em firearms only because they Can do the same damage as some firearms....I had to severely modify my .22 to get the pellets passed 800 fps..... they go through more plates then that thing...... so I figure its a gimmick to sell proprietary ammo... meaning peopl will always have to buy from them whatever the cost.. :-\ oh ps. at 5000 psi at 30 cal will drive a lead pellet through 8 2x4's so this is a gimmick to sell a sub 500 fps air gun lol.

nice but... they couldn't think of a better way to indicate it's charged except using a disc that is technically in the process of failing??? I was already wondering about the structural integrity of the air cartridge as that is obviously a potential disaster if it isn't very tough. This bulging disk is not just a poor choice, IMO, it's actually negligent design because it is reasonably foreseeable that it will fail. Excellent video as always. I enjoy your channel very much. I have version one of this when it first came out. The barrels were loose and wobbly in the frame. That would greatly effect accuracy. I had to wrap a little electrical tape around the barrels to snug them up a bit. I have never fired it. There is no way of knowing if the loaded air cartridges have leaked out the air until it is fired. If this airgun was needed to defund oneself and the air leaked out, not good 😂

Another great vid with something new. But, this gun requires way too many steps to shoot just a couple of rounds, but seems pretty powerful. I'll stick to my Umarex HD 50 T4. Simply insert the co2 click to activate, and shoot away. Thanks for this new update!

@@humor62 I'm in California, and it was a summer day, but no hotter than 100 degrees. The cartridge itself didn't explode, but the cartridge housing, the threaded cap, and the back half of the grip blew into pieces. The cartridge itself went completely through the laptop screen, and the rest of the parts destroyed the TV. Gotta be honest, it scared the shit outta me when it blew, lol...

Carrying around 2 little metal hand grenades holding back 5,000 psi seems a little terrifying. I mean, I would never carry any gun...I barely tolerate carrying around a cell phone. But the idea of having two little bombs tucked into my waistband scares the crap outta me.

I actually like it. Yes, it’s a 2 shot and that’s all you got type of weapon. In an altercation, this gives you a chance to escape/evade, or a small snickers break to figure out what to do. Or, maybe a chance to close the distance for a clinch if it’s a must. It’s an option. I love options. So, pick your poison wisely fellas....

Thanks for the great review. The Defender series has always had reliability issues. Did you test what the performance is at 4500 psi instead of 5000 psi. I think that 5000 is too high and a prime source of failures. Thanks again.
@AirgunAlley
@AirgunAlley 4 ай бұрын
Very good question and point. The maker suggested to actually fill it to 5500 PSI. But it’s just too hard with the hand pump. With the compressor I brought them to 5000, but in all honesty I think I was filling them to around 4500 when pumping in the Everglades. My pump turned out to be pretty shitty, so I really recommend a good quality hand pump for this… I also think the ammo was a tad to big for the barrel… thanks again!!

Reason you need 2 is cause of reliability issues. What's to say 1st or 2nd won't fail. And "weak" is a relative term, IMO it's enough to critically wound/kill. Abdomen, soft tissue. Vs bone it'll be guaranteed fracture.

*I own 3 of these and know how to make them 300% more powerful. I just put a dab of Klotz oil & grease mixture in the back of each pellet and the 5000 PSI burst of air makes the oil explode and "Diesel" making the pellet go twice the speed. My pellets Kronograph'd out at 1800 FPS when DIESEL'd in the 'Defender 3! Also it was LOUD! Like a real gun!!! This is the only way to carry a concealed a gun in California that really has stopping power and since its an AIR GUN there are no laws regulating it,,,,,, yet. After a few Rapists and Robbers are killed with air guns I am sure the Democrats will do everything possible to protect these people from being shoot.*
