At least until she became so desperated to save Seele she's willing to destroy entire city for that goal. She's a classic case of falling down the slippery slope despite starting with all the best intention.

Summary for the Azure Waters: Bronya Zaychik is an orphan whose parents got killed in 2nd Eruption, and then she get adopted by the army and used to become a soldier. One day, she have a mission to assassinate the leader of Negentropy (which is also an organization to stop Honkai by using Honkai-fueled mechs instead of human like Destiny) named Cocolia, but she failed and Cocolia defeated her. Instead of killing Bronya, Cocolia took her to the orphanage and let her living there with other children. One of them is Seele, and they soon becoming friends then having feelings for each others. The short purple-hair girl named Sin is always jealous with Bronya so she pushed her down the stairs and breaking one of Bronya's legs. About the orphanage, it's actually an experiment site using Honkai-resisted children for experminent, and Bronya is the one get chosen for the X-10 experiment. Knowing that, Seele comes to Cocolia and showing her born stigmata (which is extremely rare), then Seele get chosen instead of Bronya. When the X-10 experiment done, Seele's body becoming broken and turned into Quantum state where she trapped in the Quantum World. When Bronya knew about this, she have come to Cocolia in order to be in X-10 experiment again,.or else she will kill herself. After Bronya getting into Quantum World, Seele have begging her to come back and give Bronya a sweet kiss on lips as her confession, and then give Bronya the Project Bunny 19C (which is the floating robot behind Bronya all the time) with a promise to meet again soon. After the experiment failed,.Bronya's brain and legs have been damaged causing her to lose her emotion along with ability to walk, so she have to have a biological chip placing in her brain and fake legs to walk around. This is just my rough summary, so I suggest you should read the manga to know more about this.

On top of all of these cinematic animations and the in-game story, there’s mangas for Honkai as well, including the one for Azure Waters. All of this from such a dedicated team that still has a year or two ahead of them until the next Honkai game! The Honkai team in miHoYo really goes above and beyond with what they do and they deserve all of the praise that they get and then some! Also I’m really glad to see another person wanting to get into the game- even though I can barely catch up with other people streaming it as well. Honkai Impact 3rd is really one of those marvels of a game and brand that really pushes the limits of what you expect from a mobile game with a PC port, so I hope that you enjoy your journey throughout everything that it has to offer!

Highly suggest actually reading the Azure Waters Manga. The animation is basically an AMV that goes through 10 chapters of story in a few minutes.

She is cocolia and to protect the world she decided to experiment in kids because they have more Honkai adaptation than adults so when seele discovered bronya was going to do the experiment seele decided to take bronyas place, the experiment didn’t work in seele and she was thrown into the quantum space while bronya asked cocolia if she could try to do the experiment which cocolia replied she wouldn’t lose more kids in this experiments but bronya said she was going to kill herself if the experiment wasn’t made… cocolia had no choice. Bronya got to see seele in the quantum space which seele said she had to return to the real world otherwise she will end the same as seele and they made the promise to go to the beach together. When bronya returned to the real world she lost her emotions for staying so much time in the quantum space.
