(From Season 7, Episode 6 of Airline)
In this clip, two businessmen have missed check in for their flight and one of them will not take no for an answer.
If a meeting is so important you would think they would have planned their journey a little better.
Thoughts?

I'm sure you've been in a situation where you've been working for 10 months on a contract with huge pressure from your CEO to get the contract signed with a Swiss company that will change your whole career for life, that will give your company the ability to employ more people, that will make you achieve yours and your company's goals. Oh, hold on, you haven't been in a situation where you come back from Liverpool because nothing in England ever works, and that because you haven't got the contact signed, your boss, under pressure, got you sacked, you then weren't able to pay off the mortgage, your wife left you and you ended up homeless. Extreme? Well, it happens everyday. Sometimes major events in your life are created by stupid silly little decisions made by anally retentive 'these are the rules' brain dead people who often don't understand that there are no such things as rules. That's why the Swiss bloke was trying to get through to a proper decision maker.

Do customers argue like this on top tier airlines or is it just EasyJet? 1. Arrive late 2. Miss the flight 3. Argue it’s not yet taken off, surely I can just run on like it was a bus. 4. Swear, point finger 5. Insist that dispatch, supervisor and desk staff check at least four times each. 6. Don’t even say thanks when offered free flight leaving later.

@@jacklewis100 Airport operations and procedures are complicated. They have to shut the check-in and gate at the designated time. Even after shutting off the gate, the plane is still going through checks and checks. Not to mention if there's any delay, other flights (both inbound & outbound) could be delayed too. Each flight is properly slotted, if 1 is delayed it affects the overall traffic flow. The woman said "I'll make a call which makes no difference, will that make u happy?" is literally making him understand that there's nothing she can do, nothing, anymore to get him on that flight. The rules with businessmen (in effect he comes across as a salesman not a businessman), is that as part of his job he will have been trained to think (and rightly), that rules are decided and put in place by decision makers and that those rules can also be changed by those same decision makers. So he's right trying to find out who calls the shots here, not this idiotic and robotic 'these are the rules' woman. I've had similar issues, and I usually sort them out talking to the right person. I'm sure if he'd managed to talk to that Stavios guy they would have let him in.
@baders087
@baders087 4 жыл бұрын
Ben Stevens I mean it’s not just a question of rules in airlines. The second that check in closes, the system generates a the amount of passengers and calculates a load sheet for the aircraft, which needs to be countersigned by the captain. If more passengers are checked in afterwards, they have to start the calculations afresh. There just isn’t time, especially 12 minutes before it leaves.

Once the captain closes out the flight, he has to calculate a final weight and balance of the aircraft, request both a departure time for airport taxi and takeoff, but also an air traffic control route to his destination. These are usually scheduled for each flight based on an agreed to push-back time for each flight. If the captain puts additional passengers on after he has closed out the flight, he has to calculate a new aircraft weight and balance, request a new taxi and departure slot, and a new air traffic control route to the destination. That could easily delay the flight for hours and cost the airline hundreds of thousands of dollars with other flights when the same aircraft is late for other flights it was scheduled to operate.

It never fails to amaze me how people who use budget airlines want special treatment when they turn up late. You paid 29.99 mate, what did u expect?

Yes, I took a cheap flight once and it got me there, which was great, but one guy was whinging the whole way, and I just thought "If you want 5 star service, you need to pay for it."

This is the kind of thing you deal with everyday with the public. They all thinkk you are there to be their servants. Doesn't go.

Watching this reminded of the poor distraught lady whose mother had suddenly died, and with all the fuss she was late and missed her flight. Although she was turned away, the thing that has stuck in my mind, was the parting shot from the person dealing with her, Have a nice day! How cruel was that? I hope she was fired!

This was before you were able to check in and print your boarding pass remotely. So does this sort of confrontation now happen at the gate?

No big deal hopefully if it’s a frequent route just take the next flight ✈️ out. Good rule of thumb is be at the airport 90 minutes before departure minimum, even more if you have a lot of checked bags. There’s no way to know how long check in and security lines are.

Always leave so early that even if something happens, you still can make it in time. Once the subway system stopped when I needed to get to the airport. I didn't know what was going on or how long should it take to get it going again. It was pretty early in the morning and I didn't know if I could get a taxi or from where I could get one. I checked the distance to the airport and I calculated I can walk there with all my luggage and should still be there 30 min before check-in. It was about 1h 20min walk. So I opened the subway door and started walking towards the airport and made it. I was covered in sweat but I made it.

That phrase ‘there’s always one’ is so correct, I know a few people like this, they’re just always a problem, and like to argue, tossers imo. This guy is one of them too. As said by someone else on here business people often seem to be problematic.
