In this upbeat episode, current Virgin airline Captain, Chris Pohl aka Captain Chris, shares what it was like to fly the Fokker 27, Fokker 100, and A320 in his early airline career, and going on to fly the A340 and A350 with Virgin Atlantic.
Chris shares some great stories from flying the A340 into the famous Kai Tak airport, flying celebrities (such as the Friends cast, Princess Diana and more), the differences between the Airbus types, what meals he enjoys (yes we had to ask!) and much more.
Chris also gives some great advice for would-be airline/commercial pilots.

I have known Chris P, for many years, and hes always been a good laugh and ALLWAYS a pleasure to work with , Steve M, from Crewing/Rostering, i left VA in 2016, redundent !

That was a really interesting video! Been trying to work out how I could get into doing aviation as a career, and this has been really useful to get an idea where to look next to see if it would be actually possible!

My Naval aviator friend drives a Porsche and has a Tesla Model X P100DL, which is not typical for a F/A-18 test pilot.

Good advice on the ATPL route, Iv got 250 hours as a PPL but Iv got a colour deficiency so can’t get my class one. Fingers crossed it changed one day

27:03 ' doing training up in Glasgow' if I'm not mistaken that was 2019 august. i was in a 737-8 on the taxy way about to get on the runway and i looked out and saw a virgin Atlantic a350-1000 now I'm starting to think it was Chris. ( I'm not a pilot i was just a passenger )

Hey Chris, Wonderful interview. Great to hear a fellow Aussie voice out there on the podcast/KZfaq. I’m interested to hear the back story about your RN Hawk flying. I don’t know why Mike didn’t dig a bit deeper on that story. For what it’s worth, I think the RAAF should have repeated their experience with their VIP configured B707s by buying used A340-5/600s. Cheap to buy, plenty of redundancy, CCQ their KC-30 pilots… and who cares about the fuel bill? It’s not as if the military pays taxes on their fuel. Anyway, that was my proposal. Wow I’ve never heard a more helpful interview from an actual experienced pilot. UK pilot schools are very expensive, so the advice to learn in the United States is very useful, with the FAA license. Though, you still have to be rich to afford flying lessons. I guess the EU no longer allows CAA licensed pilots to fly with European airlines since Brexit? Or has that always been the case… Also his Instagram is popping off more than most influencers

Commanded the A320 for six half years. Pretty good a/c except for its darn stupid Airbus books. Flew the A310 for four half years. Again damn stupid books.and procedures. AC was ok. Flown the F27 B737 as well as the B777. to boot. Now doing B777 command conversion. Gentleman is giving very valid advise above!

Good interview but there's absolutely no way to become an Airline Pilot on the cheap. Go to America, OK, still costs to take lessons, need a visa or similar to live out there, need to pay for your living while you're out there, an expensive way to earn £30k a year as a newbie Pilot.
