The airplane is going to be faster and more efficient and much cheaper. The helicopter doesn't need an airport and the view outside is breathtaking. I think the helicopter is more fun.

To add your opinion: Airplanes compared to helicopter in efficiency per hour.. well its a tough battle because things to consider: If you are traveling across a rugged terrain area, then helicopter can be far more effective than airplane to airport, then coordinating ground trans etc.. However if you are going a longer distance where airports are readily available then of course airplane can be more efficient. Now: choice of aircraft. there are many fixed wing aircraft that cost a tremendous amount to own and operate. For example your own person jet aircraft, where a single engine propellor aircraft is far cheaper to operate. Many questions to consider when comparing. For fun flying, then hands down I love flying my helicopter!

Thanks for the informative video. I'm currently deciding on fixed wing or helicopter licence at them moment. I recently went for a flight in a helicopter and I have to say it's the most fun I have had in a long time. I even managed to impress my instructor because I managed to hover on my first go without him having to take over. I'm not going to lie, it wasn't exactly pretty, there was a bit of movement, but I kept it under control! The main thing that is just stopping me from going helicopter is the cost, here in New Zealand you are paying $600 an hour for lessons.

If your eyes are correctable to 20/20 and you can see color, depth perception then you can fly. If however those are not options, there are plenty of ways to still enjoy the world of flying. Drones are becoming very popular, you can work in the industry, like Air Traffic Control. Always a way to be around it, flight attendants enjoy flying and the benefits of travel as well.

JJ little pretty thug It doesn't matter if you didn't get 20/20 vision. I am a teen and have to wait for next 14 years to become a pilot. I don't have 20/20 vision. But we can still use spectacles to fly either an aircraft or a helicopter. If you have 9/20 vision and still using specs, you can still fly. But If your specs are unclear to see, then thay would be a big trouble. But still, you can use specs to fly the aircraft.

Sorry for long response time. Boy if you are asking on pure economic reason or the money you have to spend then I think your asking the wrong question. First no matter what aircraft type you chose it is an investment into yourself. Noone asks about how much their doctor has in student loans, no matter if he/she is a pediatrician or general practice. A pilot is a pilot. You have have ask yourself what kind of flying do you want to do? I'll post another video in the next 24-48 of this response and try to address this a bit more head on for you. Your asking questions, means your off to a good start.

Since you fly both you probably can answer this. I know a helicopter is harder to learn to fly, but once you know how to fly both, is a helicopter still harder to maintain in a coordinated fly path? You can trim an airplane and fly almost hands off and you also have autopilot, but in your R44 I assume you cant never take both hands and feet off the controls can you? That would make it a more tiresome machine to fly?
@texthreads775
@texthreads775 3 жыл бұрын
Esau, You asked a great question. Regards pilot fatigue in holding the controls airplane vs helicopter, the short answer is absolutely the pilot fatigue is more pronounced in a helicopter. It is true you cannot trim a helicopter in most cases for hands off flight. The small airplanes and the jets that I fly are pretty simple once airborne and level, select autopilot or make sure you have the aircraft trimmed as you mentioned in your comment. Over 20 years flying helicopters I found the UH-60 Blackhawk was easy to fly in comparison to the R44 helicopter, I mean during straight and level flight because the blackhawk has many systems to reduce pilot workload. We had a force trim release in the cyclic, so you could set your cyclic position and it will hold that position for you. In the R44 there is no such system, its a friction knob but you dont want to use that in flight. When asked which do you enjoy more? Hands down a helicopter is far more fun to fly than the airplane. Thanks for the comment, safe flying! Joe

I am not a pilot yet but I talked to my cousin who has flown Helicopters for about 20 years now and is just switching over to the fixed wing world. He said that helicopter pilots make way less money a year around $60,000 and it takes at least 10 to 15 years of flying to get that good of pay. As a fixed wing pilot within your first 3 to 5 years of flying for an airline company you make around a $100,000 depending on what rank you are in. While helicopters may be more fun to fly they cost 2x to 3x the amount to maintain, learn to fly, and to fly compared to airplanes. It’s also harder to find a job as a helicopter pilot because there are so many people competing for the same job. On the other hand tho helicopters are wayyyyyyyyyyy more fun to fly but harder to learn than airplanes. Honestly the choice is up too you and what type of job your looking for in the aviation world. Anyways I hope this helps and good luck on choosing which one you want to fly!

I have a question and i'm quite sure that could upset somebody, but, being a rookie in aviation and thinking about entering in this magnificent world, for me this is a huge question mark. I'm passionate about flying, but the kind of job that i'm looking for has to have a couple of mandatory things. After working for over 10 years in different sectors, i've realized that for me having proper meals at proper times and sleeping at home with my wife is absolutely what makes me happy with my job. I've always been aware of the fact that being an airline pilot sacrifices both of this values, so it wouldn't be an option for me, but i was wondering if a career in aviation in general (being so huge in niches and variety of positions) could have this "benefits". From outside seems a super sacrificed career that you do for passion only and fuck everything else, now i'm exploring the web trying to find an answer to this question, thinking both at helicopters and fixed wings. Thanks to anybody that will give me a suggestion. See ya!

Davide, you have posted an interesting situation. I think you have answered yourself however. You want a routine in life and a rewarding career to go with it. You want an aviation career that can provide meals and family time on a schedule. I think maybe you should consider a management position in the field of aviation. Where you are still a part of the group, embedded with aviation people but can go home at the same hour every day, eat regular meals. Being a pilot in nearly every field will require time from home. Exceptions: Helicopter tour operators can do very well financially and they are home every night. Allegiant airlines for example always has you home or at your base at the end of the day flying, with that the airline career path can still be attainable. Fixed wing flight instructors can pull a comfortable payroll and are also home every night. theses are but 3 examples, that are happening right now in our market of aviation. I do hope this helps you, even in a small way.

@@freedomairhelicopters6155 it helps a lot actually! I was also in doubt in between helicopter and plane for this reason, tours and teaching are common career paths for both the aircrafts, but i wasn't sure about photography or bringing parachutes people up in the sky (does it have a proper name?) Management of your cockpit: Another great question. When I am flying my R44, giving rides and tours, it is very easy to manage. I scan my instruments, and look outside and have fun.. Very easy to manage. Compare to flying my jet with the airlines or even a small plane for that matter.. Set the course, trim the plane select auto pilot and its a piece of cake! So management of the cockpit is relatively easy in both aircraft depending on the flight scenario really. Here is an example of a hard cockpit scenario: You are flying in IMC conditions, to the minimums of a CAT II approach (100') and you have moderate turbulence bouncing you around like crazy, flying at 150 KIAS and trying to keep your jet on course, on glide path ( no autopilot during these approaches mind you ) and radios are going nuts because you are in DFW class B airspace, both pilots are working and managing every resource we have.. I compare that with doing the same thing in my former days flying the UH-60 Blackhawk in ice, snow and on a busy approach into Nuremberg Germany, where the controllers english was hard to understand and we were managing the heck out of our aircraft to once again, stay on course ans on glidepath. To sum up an answer for you: they are both very easy in the right scenarios, or very workload intensive in other scenarios such as my two short stories.

Sorry for delayed response time folks. A good question however very hard to answer. You need data spanned over time.. take one decade and compare the numbers of General aviation FW crashes compared to Helicopter crashes. I would recommend you do not compare the airline crash rate to either GA (General Aviation) or helicopters because one airliner has a significantly higher number of people therefore deaths if fatal. GA and helicopter tend to run similar amounts of people to compare. Some things to look at: When you lose an engine in an airplane you must have a smooth place to land, free of obstacles to land and slow down. Where you lose an engine in your helicopter, find a suitable field, parking lot, or a very small space to set her down. Easier in that perspective to emergency land a helicopter. Hope that helps with your question.

Or go the other extreme and park in very expensive hangars. Maintenance costs: due a bit a research and ask a more pointed question. Like maintenance of a King Air 350 vs that of Bell 206 jet ranger. Or a cessna compared to R22 helicopter.. Those costs can line up very similar. latest R44 100HR maintenance bill for our company was just under $5,000, where my friend did a 100HR on his airplane for around $500. both 4 seats, both have 6 cylinder engines, one is a helicopter though.

Come on video how much you can earn? Airplane Vs Helicopter
@freedomairhelicopters6155
@freedomairhelicopters6155 4 жыл бұрын
Earnings: the best research tool here: Google! Not to be overly sarcastic, but really..if you want to follow the revenue streams in one vs the other, then compare helicopter jobs to airplane jobs, find a field of similar operating and then compare pay charts. Airline pilots are known to make a alot of money: But I caution you: It is not that way in the beginning of your airline pilot journey. You will more likely be in the poor house during training as you have must cough up the training money yourself, and when you qualify you can join a regional. then you will quickly learn the pay is not huge and you will have a hefty student loan to pay back while trying to live. Now this is the case in both aviation career paths.. You must pay for the training; then be patient as you build your flight time and compete with the respective industry pilots to get a good foot in the door for a career. Airplane corporate path can easily bring 6 figures, but you pay the price of your schedule. you will consistently be on call or at the mercy of the VIP you are flying for. Airlines provide a fixed schedule, but you gotta pay your dues in the regionals before the majors, if they will hire you..Nothing is automatic. Top airline pilots can enjoy 250K per year or more.. Helicopter: What is your drive? Save lives, then go down the EMS path.. great career, wonderful machines and pay starts around 50K plus or minus your first year. It scales as with any company and can exceed 6 figures within a short few years. Top helicopter pilot professionals can see 150K plus.. Anything above $77k is simply money in the bank at that point.. $77k per year is the average family of four level of comfortable living in the United States. Thanks for you comments!

Airplane pilots are also in demand in the Airline industry as a huge wave of retiree's are afoot at present time of this comment. So it depends on you! In both scenarios the pilot has clear choices to make. In Airplanes if the event you lose your power, then you must establish a glide, find an airport or the next best area to safely land your airplane. Helicopters: You are taught almost immediately how to handle power loss. We call it Autorotate where you essentially reverse the airflow to control your decent and find a suitable place to land your aircraft. In both aircraft, the pilot has to make the best decision possible and a short amount of time and can be done successfully.
