George wrote such uplifting music!! How can you not feel something spiritual listening to this (no matter what your beliefs might be). He didn't care who/what you followed, just that you aspired to be a good person and loved your fellow humans, and the world as a whole. RIP George.

Okay you got me. I’m subscribing. I think what you’re referring to was a string instrument from India called a sitar which George learned to play and also that was a Hindu chant. “Harrison’s lyrical attempt to bridge a divide between Christianity and Hinduism was one meaning of the song.” George just wanted everyone to get along and live in peace☮️

Well, yes and no. We will never know what John might have done. We had a taster on 9 October 1980, his 40th birthday. I bought it and was on cloud 9. He was back; I was ecstatic. Exactly 2 months later (4 days after my birthday) he was murdered. So up to a point yes, but we will never truly know. Breaks my heart. Oh and never, ever mention the murdering bastard's name. That's what he wanted, to have his name linked to John's forever. He's the assassin, the murdering bastard or the killer. Ok, so have a great weekend, wherever you are. x love, peace and music from East Coast of England.

the uniqueness of this song is that he took Hindu/Krishna spiritual chant and set it to a standard Gospel chord progression. Even though the concepts were foreign to a western audience, the song became number 1. Pretty amazing. Yes, George wrote almost all his own material. And he had 1 or 2 songs on almost every Beatles album - and many absolutely great ones. All Things Must Pass is an incredibly deep album. You should check out as much of this album as you can.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney didn't want to record Harrison's music except when they needed more songs to finish the album. That's how the love song - Something (In The Way She Moves) was recorded written by Harrison, released by The Beatles and became a massive hit, still considered today as one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Harrison by many people is considered their favorite musician from the Beatles.

There wasn't enough room on an album for John and Paul, never mind George towards the end of the Beatles. George was great, but way behind John and Paul for sheer volume of great songs. He matched them twice on Abbey Road and that's about it. Same in their solo careers, take all the greatest 15 songs from each after the break up, you'll see what I mean.

George's All Things Must Pass is arguably the best of the all the Beatles solo albums. Ringo plays great drums on this song. George's slide guitar playing is instantly recognizable. Such a signature sound. He came up with this song after jamming with Billy Preston during a 1969 tour with Delaney and Bonnie when they were talking about great gospel music. George and Billy were very spiritual. Clapton played with them on that tour also.

People forget The Beatles weren't just 3.5 random good looking kids from Liverpool. They were world class musicians who changed the world with their music. Everything that came after them, is a result of them coming before. They made lemons in to lemonade, when they couldn't tour due to Beatlemania, and just went to work in the studio with a daily, hard hat mentality. It's hard to come up with a great hook, because The Beatles already took them all.

George went to India along with the other Beatles and studied TM with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He also learned to play the sitar with Ravi Shankar in India and later in London he met Swami Prabhupada the founder of the global Hare Krishna Movement. Thus, he was exposed to eastern religions including Hindi in his search for a spiritual life. What you heard was the Hindi language and a mantra evoking different names or avatars of some of the Hindi gods. Some of these names in the Sanskrit language, are Hare, Krishna and Rama. The lyrics mention the following: ”Guru Brahma” - the Lord of Creation, “Guru Vishnu” - the Lord who is called organizer, “Guru Devo Maheshwarah” refers to Lord the destroyer; “Tasmai Shree Guruve Namah” means we bow to the Guru; “Guru Sakshat Parabrahma” is the supreme god or almighty. These meaning and translations are what I’ve read but I’m not an expert so translations could have other meanings. George's song reflects his deep spiritual journey and his openness to enlightenment from other philosophies.

Harrison never really 'just played in the background' w/ The Beatles from '65 on. If you don't know, he was the youngest member, like 3 years younger than Lennon and Starr, so he wasn't likely to be as prolific and mature as a songwriter initially w/ the band, but by '65 and certainly by '66 his songwriting was stronger. But even on Lennon & McCartney songs he was playing great, influential guitar parts as well as his wonderful harmonies. And he got at least 2 songs of his on per album (3 on Revolver, more on The White Album).

For a real beautiful rendition of this song take a listen at the concert tribute to George Harrison. Billy Preston plays keys and does the lead vocals on this while the other great musicians on stage pick up the background vocals. Talk about taking you to church. As you may know, Billy Preston played keyboards on a lot of their songs.

He had so many great songs stashed from his Beatle years, the producer Phil Spector was amazed when he showed him the songs. They decided to do the All Things Must Pass album to use some of them. George brought in Ringo, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton and other musician friends to make the album. George was the spiritual one in the band, Paul was the love song pop writer, John the deep thinking politician, and Ringo the happy go lucky one.

George wrote his own music and lyrics. He also wrote some of the best of the Beatles. See "Something," "Here Comes the Sun," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," among many others. You should check out the entire "Concert for Bangladesh."

Yep, George wrote ALL of this. Pete Hamm from Bad Finger playing along with George on the acoustic..Check out "Baby Blue" from Bad Finger! AND, George got sued over this song, oops! Had to pay 10 Mill I think..? Supposedly sounded too close to "He's so Fine" which I still don't get..?? Love that song too though, The Shirelles I think.

As a teen I I loved this song. In the 70',s in grief over the breakup of The Beatles this was a very spiritual song for me until he started calling out Devo Vishnu Krishna. That would make me shutter. Because I believe in only one God and his first creation Jesus. And the only true God Jehovah. The one who give the gorge to begin with.😊

George Harrison does some great vocals. He also wrote "Wile My Guitar Gently Weeps" though Eric Classic played a solo in it. You may want to check out some Traveling Wilbury's videos. It's a group made up of George Harrison and some primo artists. They got together just to have fun making music.

He wrote most if not all of these songs when he was still on the Beatles. A couple songs were written by other people. He wrote several great Beatle songs too.

George was a follower of Paramhansa Yogananda. This song is a version of a meditation chat where the chatter is “telling” God to reveal him/herself.

Lennon, Mc Cartney AND Harrison allways composed and arranged the music, wrote the lyrics and sang and played the instruments themselves. They did get some assistence with the arranging from producer George Martin though. Music from heaven this.

George was involved in Eastern Mysticism, and Hinduism from his days as a Beatle. He was raised in a Christian family, but was always searching, as you hear in the lyrics of this song, where he say's (to Christ) "I really want to know you Lord, but it takes so long." Race car driver Emerson Fittipaldi, and longtime best friend Eric Clapton, are both Christians, and Clapton had been counseling George and telling him that Christ said there is only one way. "No man comes to the father except through me." When George was dying in the hospital with lung cancer, I guess everything got clear for him, and he and Eric Clapton prayed the sinner's prayer on his death bed. George admitted, that deep in his heart all of these years, he knew Christ was the truth. What a wonderful story. I saw Eric Clapton on a video telling this story and it made him cry. Thanks guys
