Yep, Van Halen 1 is in my top 10 debut albums ever, Eddie sounded new, fresh and so powerful, he had the band with him to make an ultimate statement. Do the whole album, the only way for this one, every song is a banger. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎶

When Van Halen 1 came out, it knocked the guitar world in a way that hadn't been done since Jimi. Playing something that nobody else was doing or could do. People tried, but genius like that can't be duplicated.

That whole first Van Halen album is one of the greatest debut albums in rock history along with Boston. I wish you guys would do that whole album. But if you do eruption from that, not the 13-minute guitar solo that everyone is reacting to but just on the original first album, you absolutely have to continue it on into their cover of The Kinks song You Really Got Me. It was meant to be that way on the record album and that's how the radio stations played it. And it is such a fantastic transition.

Oh that was priceless gents!!! “He’s the plumber!!” Lol. For something completely different from their catalog, but in the “old school” camp. Try listening to “Big Bad Bill” from the Diver Down album. They had Jan Van Halen (their father) play clarinet on that one. Very unique for the time. But, captures what you recognized in this song, their homage/influence of old school music. Hope you give it a listen. Thanks again guys for a fun episode.

One of the greatest first album released by any band ever. This album changed the direction of metal guitar. Every song on this album is a banger. I was fortunate enough to see Eddie and the original Van Halen lineup at least 15 times including the US Festival in 1983. I agree with your other commenter, this album deserves an entire listen. RIP to the master shredder Eddie Van Halen.

I see 9 replies that say our favorite reactors should do the whole Self-Titled "Van Halen" album. You've done "Runnin' With the Devil", "Jamie's Cryin' ", "Ain't Talkin' About Love" and now "Ice Cream Man"....and you did the live "Eruption"...I should know, I've watched 'em too many times...lol. Let's Go...."You Really Got Me'" is next and then "I'm the One." 🔥🔥🤘🤘

@highwayst4r71210 ай бұрын
Do the studio album version of Eruption. It’s sharper, clearer and more concise than extended later versions. Easier for noobs to VH to process. Besides, later versions built on and played in and around that structure. It should be heard first.

One of my favourites from VH, thanks. It always reminds of a time when I lived in a house with four roommates, all of whom liked to party. And during the summer the ice cream man would come by at around 11 pm. And all the stoners on the block would throw their flip flops on and shuffle out to get a cone or a banana split, including all five of us.

This song was cool in so many ways. One of the few tracks that Eddie featured some acoustic guitar playing and as you stated put his flavoring on some old time rock n roll melody. But for me this song really highlights Dave's vocal talents. His signature inflections, tone, pitch, modulation and vocal range were brilliant. And his little Elvis impersonation "to sassify", there at the end is just so much fun.

Just got into HS when VH I came out! It was like a totally new genre of rock music coming out of the late 70s. I can still hear a kid talking about VH after he saw VH open for Journey and Montrose. Incidently, the future VH singer Sammy Hagar was the lead singer for the Montrose band.
@sheila1965troubles10 ай бұрын
I remember getting high with my aunt who was five years older than me and she had just gotten a brand new Mustang second generation and I went with her and her bestie to go out driving around her small town one night. This was in 78-79, somewhere around there, we pulled off the side of the road and sparked up a doob, she said "You gotta hear this band, they're wild" and popped in Halen 1. I was starting to rush off the weed and that booming bass of Running with the Devil came on and I was absolutely enthralled and in love. I could not get enough of that album or Halen II. One of the best times I remember as a teen 🤟🖤💙❤🔥

great reaction. "put that stink on it" : ) . One of the few songs on their first album w/ a guitar overdub on the 2nd solo, so much of it was just Eddy on 1 track, in your left ear. Ted Templeman produced it I think, he did the same thing on the Montrose 1st album, Ronnie Montrose was panned all the way to one side on most/many tracks. Trivia, history.
