How is the lightning port on the Air Pods case affect the sound? Isn't it only there to charge the case? I mean the Air Pods are wireless and connect to the phone when in use, the case really does nothing after that.

Yes, you're right! The USB-C is only used for charging on the AirPods and AirPods Pro. However, the AirPods Max Lightning port can be used for wired listening (via a 3.5mm dongle), and the Lightning port on the iPhones (before 15) support wired audio. The whole idea of Lightning audio is really meant as a general commentary on the connector, expanding the context beyond AirPods and AirPods Pro. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Thanks for watching! I just got a Gen 2 Pro before this announcement. Will it also support the lossless connection to vision pro? So far the only things that seem like hard changes are USB-C, which I can live with, and the IP54 durability rating bump, which seems pretty small

It's definitely possible that the original AirPods Pro 2 (with Lightning charging case) _could_ support Lossless audio with the Vision Pro, since it uses the same Apple H2 chip found on the USB-C case variant. I actually liked the form factor of lightning because in the usb-a days it was amazing to not worry about which way to plug it in and it was a stronger connection. However, I will be forever baffled why they never bothered to increase the data transfer speeds on it

What's the point of buying these if you own the previous version? These are basically the same. Sad to see how Apple take treats their customers that way. AirPods or iPhone there is literally nothing new from the last versions, a few details yes but it's not gonna change our lives.

According to Apple, Lossless audio with the new AirPods Pro 2 and Vision Pro is made possible by some new wireless audio protocol they've cooked up in Apple HQ. @@SoundGuysand that’s just a shame. They are so far behind compared to Sony with their ldac format and now the lame excuse that only the vision will support a better Bluetooth/wifi format is outrageous. All the aptx formats are even better than what apple can do.
