Various STOL aircraft compete for the shortest takeoffs and landings during the Monday night Twilight Flight Fest on the ultralight runway at EAA AirVenture 2018 in Oshkosh, WI. Look for Draco, the turbine-powered Wilga aircraft!

I was wondering what that was. It's a little screamer! It looked like he won both the takeoff and landing (from my perspective). Don't know the official results, though.

Yeah. The more rpm, the more power for a given weight. And the more unreliable. But, being a Yamaha I think it might still be reliable "enough"... whatever that means to a pilot. Drop the rpm (and mean piston speed) to half and you have quadrupled the reliability.

Yup, you and many others! The best part is that when Mike shows up with the "Beast," the audience shows up to watch and everybody else benefits too. Mike and his incredible machine are good for the whole event... oh, and after watching all of his build videos, he's also built one huge following.

I thought Draco would be the best but I think this yellow plane beat Draco on both the Take off 1:15 and landing 3:37

I agree. Draco is so spectacular to watch, even if he was not even close on take off with a couple of the others. It is amazing what he has done with a machine that much more capable than the others and over 3 times the weight.

I don’t understand why Trent seemed do stop trying to land as short as possible in the middle of it? If he would have kept braking all he could he would have gotten the shortest landing of the all

You can NOT call this a "STOL Competition," because only a select few individuals were asked to participate in this takeoff and landing exhibition. It was an exhibition and nothing more. It was NOT open to competitors. Had this been a competition open to the competitors that were present at EAA AirVenture 2018, NONE of these people who took part in this exhibition would have had a chance at winning a real STOL competition. They can take off and land pretty short, but none of them would have had a chance in an actual STOL competition with actual STOL competitors. Draco's nice, but a K650T Sherpa will beat it every single time.
