This is probably a super unpopular opinion but my biggest problem with the album was the vocal delivery. It's not that I don't think Lorde is a great singer (she is), but the vibe she was going for with this album seemed to be calm and meditative with super mellow (and sometimes repetitive) instrumentals, and because of that I think her voice should have been smoother and a lot less layered to have a soothing/angelic quality to it. It's a decent leave-in-while-doing-chores album, but imo it could have been a lot more simplistically beautiful with the right vocal delivery. Idk. Maybe this style just isn't suited to her voice, which is wonderful in its own right and really shines on less mellow songs that can show off her vocal versatility.

Part of the problem is Ella isn't a very dynamic vocalist. There's a reason why she's known for her low, gravely, whisper singing style. Girl just doesn't have the chops. Is she a brilliant writer? Sure. But she's had vocal lessons and still cant really sing

Not everyone will like it ig but sometimes yall have to experiment with stuff, can't stick to that same routine everytime, that would mean ur not allowing urself to develop as a person at all and thats sad. Omg I know zero context about any of this and I read the title as, "ajayii not feeling the lord's power for 1.5 mins straight" and I thought she was some gospel singer and that was some meme about her, was deadass gonna search her up I- 😭😭😭

tbh, solar power is an album to listen to to feel calm, relaxed, and is made for summer. Once it is summer i feel like this will grown on me more, and i really dont think lorde didnt want this album to have the same results as melodrama.

it was definitely impossible for her to follow up something as mindblowing and perfectly craved as Melodrama, however Solar Power isn't a bad album, it just isn't on the same level as PH/Melodrama.

Solar Power as an album is definitely for fans of lorde and Ella herself. This wasn’t a commercial kinda thing.

For me they sound so similar I couldn't find much differences in a lot of the tracks. There isn't a particular sound that makes me go "oh wow... This is a really unique sound" it sounds like the type of music hippies would listen to in the 70s

I love it as well! I have to say Fallen Fruit is my favourite song of 2022 so far. It just reflects the nhilism that is the feeling of "we're to the point in which we almost cannot do anything to save the planet"
