See how everytime they tackle and the opponent falls down no one is screaming for a foul? That's the mark of a true defender because they know it's a clean foul. Also players back then were rock solid. They didn't cry after every contact.

The timing, the focus and the fair non-harming slide, these were always there in them. Defending can be an art- people wouldn’t realize ever if Maldini and Nesta not graced the football

When I played football I was a midfielder more often 10 but sometimes 8 or even winger but when I started to watch nesta + maldini performances something changed inside me. Defending became my thing. Now I’m older, I’m a dad and stopped playing in a team but I still have more passion for defending players than the others. For me players like nesta, maldini, desailly, hierro, campbell, thuram, cafu were my heroes they were beasts

You are definitely old school. The new generation doesn't even know half of those players. Back in the day, defense was an art, and we loved it more than offense sometimes. We were happy to see a good game even tho the score was 0 - 0.

What a pair of defenders, the best thing is that their sliding tackles are always clean and throwing the ball out and in most keeping it or even giving a pass to another teammate. If both are already legends of AC Milan, not to mention when in the italian team they formed the defensive back with Cannavaro and Costacurta, that is, a defensive wall impossible to break

@@OURGAMERSTUDIO lol don't even dare saying that once again kid always remember a 37 year old maldini pocketed 2005 ronaldo who was one of the youngest prospects back then if prime milan and current man city meet kaka will walk past walker and rodri and they wouldn't even notice shevchenko will destroy ederson and stones maldini, nesta and cafu will pocket haaland, kdb and grealish while dida will be chilling on the goal because city players would have to cross 10 walls before facing him and dont get me started on the late 80s and early 90s milan (their real prime) you have the likes of maldini, baresi, rijkaard, gullit, van basten, ancelotti, etc. one of the scariest teams in history of football and probably prime barca and prime bayern can be said better than them 7>1

i honestly think the difference b/w them and todays defenders is that today they focus on keeping possession instead of clearing which causes them to make multiple mistakes while defenders then just did their job and left the rest for the midfielders and kept the ball outta the net

- Young Maldini played against Maradona - Prime Maldini played against Ronaldo 9 - Prime Nesta played against Ronaldo 9 both of them say that these opponents were a NIGHTMARE to deal with. - Old Maldini played against prime CR7 and Prime Messi - Old Nesta also played against prime CR7 and prime Messi. They both POCKETED them. Always. That speaks a lot about the GOAT debate.

There is so much more to their game. Don’t get me wrong, their tackles are beautiful but even Nesta said that if you do a sliding tackle it means you lost your position. Imagine if you can re-watch all the subtle defending with right positioning? That’s where their true strength was
