In this rural, white town in southern Virginia, Black residents have felt like second-class citizens for generations. But these three Black women say it’s finally time for change.
Here’s what it’s like to fight for Black lives in a county that is 90% white and where Confederate statues are celebrated.

No matter how hard you think about it, black groups talk about black discrimination against white people, but not Asian discrimination by black people. Considering these points, "all lives matter" seems more reasonable "It's not a crime to be uneducated, but it's a crime if you harm others because you're uneducated." This applies to everyone

The Confederate flags are a symbol of the south, it does not represent racism, the only reason people believe it represents hate is because of its missuse by radical movements like the KKK. In late teens I moved to an all white neighborhood and went to an all white school. That is where I found out about racism. Kids I went to school with had never actually ment someone of color. @@AuslanderRaus1488i’m going to assume you’re talking about post-colonialism canada. it’s stolen land, as many of the americas are. it’s so stupid that people feel that “their nation” is under attack because people who are of different nationalities/ethicities are trying to make some change there. personally, i’m more well-versed in the colonization of north america compared to central or south america, so what i will say (as a white person born in the USA) is that us immigrants/descendants of colonizers have no leg to stand on when we try to keep “our” nation “the way it is” when we literally stole this land and committed genocide on the people who were rightfully inhabiting north america and we have the audacity to restrict federally recognized tribes to tiny pieces of the land that is rightfully theirs, as well as forcing many to “americanize” (aka wipe their native identity away and replace it with a euro-typical identity). not to mention that the people who are the rightful owners of this land are usually the most impoverished , since the indigenous people are still under the control of the federal government, which keeps them down since the feds can keep them systemic poverty by means of suppression of actual land ownership and their control over nearly all aspects of economic development through complex legal framework, energy regulations, the mismanagement of indigenous assets, etc. “our” nation, whether it be the usa or canada, have done all we can to suppress the success of native americans through the mechanisms recognized earlier. this is not “our” nation, unless we’re taking about first nations people. it’s insanely hypocritical to defend the white culture of the land against different ethnicities and nationalities and more progressive ideas when colonizers proudly steamrolled over indigenous culture and still perpetuate that today.

As a Alabama native and resident that has lived in many states and 4 years in Europe I can honestly say the most racist place I ever lived was California. People are very fake and there is a lot of racism from a lot of different races. In the south whites and blacks have lived next to each other throughout all the bad and good times. When I live out west, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, everything was so much more segregated. I hate the stereotype that all white southerners are racist just because our ancestors may have been. As a white man with mixed children I think I have a unique perspective. There is always going to be racist but I truly believe that most people are good people who care about their neighbors. Maybe I am wrong about that but it's how I choose to live my life. Not being naive but I also believe that the energy you put out is what you get back. If you are nice then others will be too.

I heard stories of my aunt's and my mom when they went to school. They said the teachers only gave the white students good grades. And failed blacks, asians, and any other race other than white. I didn't get why people could be so evil, yet here we are. My family comes from native American decent and like ..... I feel like they are trying to run natives of America out of their own country. They are not natives. My family is and yet they were being treated like dogs and we're discriminated against. Why is the world so racist. It's like there are people who still don't understand that we are all related. We are sister, brothers. We are the same because God made us. How can people say they are from the same religion as you and still don't respect everyone. That's mildly disrespectful and that's not what God wants for the world. He wanted us all to live in peace, love each other as siblings. And live the best life we can. But then there are people like the racist in that town. They don't like others because they think they are higher than them. We are the same. We should respect each other like we respect our families. I'm not going to point a finger at only white people when thinking of racism. They were taught to hate everyone else because their ancestors told them not to like us. It's not their fault. But if they continue to just not accept the fact that we are all equal than, yes they should be called out. It's common in whites to be racist, they were taught to be. If we changed history racism wouldn't be a think. Christopher Colombus possibly should have stayed in Europe because he brought racism and slavery to the Americas. Anyways don't be racist. We are all equal, no one bigger than the other. God is the biggest and none of us are God. Especially not a sample of God himself (self entitled racist people). ¡Que tengas un buen día, espero que lo entiendas! (*Have a good day, I hope you understood what I said*).

@Marco Chiacchiari there were two sides. The US and the traitors. There's no justifiable reason to wage war against your democratic government. To do so is treason. I’m from Mississippi but just recently moved to San Antonio, Texas. I’m proud of you guys for making your voice heard. Here in San Antonio we are so diverse no one really ever cares about race, religion, or culture. In Mississippi however, racism does exist even if they say they aren’t they are. I had someone from Pakistan at school and she got treated like crap because they thought she was going to bomb the school. She’s Hindu not Muslim first of all. And I had a teacher that was racist against a girl in class who was half Japanese. And what I don’t understand is that Germany doesn’t have any statue of adolf hitler, Russia has no statues of Stalin or Lenin, Japan has no statues of hideki Tojo. Japan has a WW2 museum in Nagasaki where they were bombed. And none of these countries have forgotten their dark sides of history. So why should the US have confederate statues. I have a friend from Munich and she said every single year they have to visit a concentration camp to learn their history even though they have no statues. We all have had dark times in history. It’s important not to forget it and learn from it.

Meanings don't always cross over so what's bad in one culture can be good in another. You need to learn to be more tolerant instead of acting and viewing things as if everything revolves around your group's perspective. I can understand being mad if this fist was aimed at Venezuelans and cubans, and I would support your outrage if that was the case, but _it's not._ It's used by black culture and aimed for black culture.
