I found this song in 2020 when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. No job. No car. No money. My boyfriend hauled me and our children off to my mothers house, once again. He had broken my heart SO many times. I kept going back. 2 years later I left. With nothing for myself. I got a job. I got my driver's license. I got my own place. ALL with the help of absolutely no one. 2020 me would never believe what I have accomplished. When I drive home from my job, in my car, and this song comes on, it feels so good.

This song is honestly the last regular memory I had before covid. I was in middle school sitting at lunch with my friends, and we all watched it on my small phone screen. A couple days later, we tried to buy concert tickets, but we didn't have enough, so we planned to save over the summer. It's honestly crazy to believe that it all happened just a few weeks before the world just stopped.

I think of this like a sequel to "The Entertainment's Here" in that song you are trying to distract yourself, with 50s gambling nostalgic casino vibe. This song has the same vibe but it feels like you have gotten too caught up in the chase and know that you need to make the best of it in the biggest way possible

There are a ton of songs you could connect this to. Pretender is clearly evident, along with the Finale, and a couple others that I can't name at the moment because I'm very distracted. So yeah, its wonderful how they use little references and connections in their music, keeping us fans active :)

It feels to me, at least, like a sequel to Don’t throw out my legos, referencing taxes, moving into an apartment, and “going out with a bang” may reference to feeling unaccomplished, further supported by the lyric “i’m way too old... way too young...”. Could just be a general neotheater sequel, tho.

This song is not about suicide. “We wrote “BANG!” about the weird middle ground between being a kid and becoming an adult; a time when we’re doing all the adult things adults are supposed to do, but we don’t feel grown up yet” “the fact is, adulthood is bound to hit us at some point, so the plan we made in the song is to ‘go out with a bang.” - AJR Edit: guys this is not a fan theory or something I made up. This is a quote from the band who wrote the song. They’ve even said they knew people were probably going to interpret it as suicide and that that’s wrong.
