Posted by the International Al Jolson Society, www.jolson.org, this is an excerpt of the 07 Dec 1935 broadcast of the NBC Radio Studio dedication, featuring Al Jolson. This is a brief sample of the two hour broadcast, of which about an hour and a quarter survive, and includes Al Jolson singing "Cantor on the Sabbath," and is illustrated with photos of Al Jolson singing on the radio in 1935. Jolson is one of many stars on the program, appearing several times in the broadcast. The complete broadcast, along with other Jolson radio shows, is available at the Official Al Jolson Website at www.jolson.org, from its posting in December through the end of January. Join the IAJS for this, and much more, material of the World's Greatest Entertainer, from our Facebook page or website.

Here is a translation of the Yiddish lyrics : A cantor came to a small town To pray on the Sabbath. Three Men came to the people of the town One man was a tailor, the second man Was a shoemaker. And the third was a laborer. The tailor sang: oho, baba ho (chanting) The shoemaker sang: (chanting) This is how we pray. (chanting) This is how we pray (chanting) And the townspeople prayed (chanting)

@@MarcLeaveyI have a friend who belongs. He's not been in touch for years now. His name is Nigel Lowe of Willenhall (near Wolverhampton),England. He's a good impersonator. He taught me about Jolson. I've been a musician my whole life and grew up in a Jewish neighbourhood, and it took an gentile English man to teach me about Jolson! 😂❤❤❤
